Golf for Health Classic Raises More Than $100,000

The 17th Annual Golf for Health Classic exceeded its fundraising goals and raised $103,576, all of which will benefit the Southern Coos Health Foundation, in its efforts to support programs, projects and equipment for Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center. This is significantly higher than last year's event, which raised $78, and the 2022 event, which raised $51,000.

This year's event, held Friday, Sept. 20, and Saturday, Sept. 21, was the biggest ever, with more money raised than at any previous Southern Coos Health Foundation fundraising event. More people attended the event as well. There were 32 teams representing 127 players.

"We are so pleased with this year's turnout and with the momentum this annual event has gained," said Foundation Executive Director Scott McEachern. "It was a beautiful day and golfers enjoyed all of the activities. We are already in the planning stages for next year."

Drive-through Flu Shot Clinic Set for Oct. 23

BANDON -- Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center will once again offer free flu shots at its annual drive-through Flu Shot Clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 23, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until 2 p.m. or while supplies last.

The free drive-through Flu Shot Clinic will be held in its usual location, in the graveled parking area adjacent to the main baseball field at Bandon City Park. Signs will be posted on 11th Street to clearly guide people.

This year, the hospital will offer both the high-dose vaccine for those 65 and over as well as the regular dose vaccine. In addition, COVID vaccine boosters will be available. It is safe to have both shots on the same day, according to medical professionals.

As usual, there are limited supplies, so those wishing to receive the vaccines are encouraged to come early and remain in their cars and medical staff will assist.

Veterans Invited to be Part of Annual Photo

Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center, Bain Insurance Agency and The World newspaper are partnering to once again take a group photo of all Bandon-area veterans that will be published in The World's special Veterans Day section.

This has been a tradition for many years now, and was started by the Bandon Western World newspaper at Joseph Bain's suggestion. A Vietnam veteran himself, Bain's goal is to honor and remember all veterans.

All veterans are welcome, whether they served at home or abroad, during an active conflict or during peace time.

Veterans are asked to gather at the Bandon High School gym at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, for a photo and to enjoy refreshments and a social time afterwards.

For more information, contact Amy Moss Strong at 541-329-1038 or email amossstrong@southerncoos.org.

Emergency Department

  • Staff was outstanding. You have an excellent team
  • Everyone from check in, the nurse and doctor seem friendly and compassionate.
  • Dr. Ransom was professional, caring, and extremely competent. The nursing staff and CT tech were great at keeping me informed and reassured about my testing and progress while in the ER. Going to an ER is very stresfful, but having a great staff helps alleviate a lot of that stress.
  • It has always been such a pleasure to be able to go to a hospital that takes decent care of me. I am more than impressed. The service is great, the nurses are grat, and the doctor, Chick Jordan, was absolutely fabulous. I cannot ever say anything bad about BAH. To me it is really, really good for the emergency department. Thank you.
  • My doctor was great, I just loved her. Nurses are very kind too.
  •  I really liked Dr. Marriott and the nursing staff. They were very kind.
  • I am a caregiver and my client was in the ER. Dr. Kelly was fantastic. Good listener and valued my input. He was honest, respectful, and caring. As well as the nurses Eric and Sara. I was very concerned about my client and everyone treated us well. In addition, I am happy to say that my client was feeling much better the next day.
  • Amazing! I was treated in less than an hour. Very kind, intelligent, caring personel hepped to make my visit much better. I have not always had good experiences there, so I was nervous to try it. Wonderful job. I felt so cared for.
  • Going to the ER is never enjoyable but the staff helped immensely to make my visit as pelasant as possible.
  • Very thankful to Dr. Kelly and the entire staff. He knew exactly wat to do to help me, explained it to me and then performed the necessary procedure without hesitation. I was discharged quickly, within the hour I think! I feel much better, seem to be mending well. Again, thank you.
  • Yes, Dr. Poulsen and his staff were very professional and took care of all of the matters that weren’t necessary. I appreciate that and thank you.
  • All of the staff were wonderful, but I'd like to add that Dr. Christoffer Poulsen was extraordinary. Thank you for excellent care.
  •  I've always felt confident with going to SCH for any emergency.
  • Very good attention tó problems from accident and cared about pain!!
  • It was fast and efficient. Thank you.
  • Fred was an excellent nurse practitioner. He was very thorough and took the time to figure out what was going on. He was very friendly and explained things very well.
