Bangor Natural Gas service resumes

Dear Members,

We hope you enjoyed a relaxing weekend during this holiday season. While it’s still officially fall, it’s certainly feeling more and more like winter in Maine, especially during the overnights.

Because of the approaching colder weather, we’re pleased to report that the MRC successfully has worked with Bangor Natural Gas to resume service to the Hampden plant. A new account has been opened by the MRC and the furnace is restarted. Any potential danger of frozen pipes or other cold weather hazards has been averted.

Beginning with strongly urging the Bondholders to keep the plant intact and resist the expedient move of dismantling the machinery and selling it off in pieces, the MRC is continuously working to preserve this asset (the plant) so that it may be sold and restarted. Keeping the plant fully winterized is part of that work, as is keeping the needs and wellbeing of our members front of mind as we work toward reopening the plant.

Regarding the sale, all is now in the hands of the Bondholder Trustee. A credible offer was submitted several weeks ago from one of the new interested parties. We have received very little communication from the Bondholder Trustee regarding whether it will be accepted or not. The MRC Board is meeting tomorrow to discuss options to address the Trustee’s inaction.

Thank you for your continued patience during this long and arduous process.

Sincerely,

Michael Carroll
MRC Executive Director
