Banking Involves More Than Money
Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven. (Matthew 6:20)
To bank means to deposit, to pile up, or to store something. And banking involves more than putting money in a building for safekeeping.
It was interesting witnessing this concept unfold through figure skating pairs during the Winter Olympics. A skating pair racked up an excessive number of points during their short program a day before; however, they fell far below the bar during their long program a day later. Another pair fell short during their short program a day before but excelled beautifully during their long program. Which pair do you think received the gold medal?
The pair who had banked their points earlier received the gold medal even though they had several obvious mistakes during their final performance. On the other hand, the pair who hadn't banked enough points won only the silver medal even though their final performance was flawless.
You might say that wasn't fair. Then you might wonder what that has to do with God and things related to serving God. In Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, He commanded us to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven. That simply means we should not wait until we are on our death beds before we try to live a godly life in only a few minutes. We should not put off being laborers for the Kingdom of God thinking we have enough time left to do so. We should serve God and His people daily.
Let's not procrastinate when it comes to depositing and storing up for ourselves treasures in heaven. There might come a time when we won't be able to do so, but we can be sure that what we have banked earlier will be enough for God to say, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Do your banking today while there is still time.
