"You are dust, and to dust you shall return" (Gen.3:19)
At 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14th, we will begin our observance of the season of Lent with our annual Ash Wednesday Service. In accordance with our usual pattern, we will gather first in Davis Hall for our fellowship meal at 6:00 p.m. After supper, we will move up to the sanctuary for the service. There, through confession of sin and the imposition of ashes, we will corporately acknowledge the brokenness in our lives and our need for God's grace. As Lent begins, we hope you will join with us as we walk together the honest but hopeful road that leads to Easter.
Menu: spaghetti, salad, fruit, dessert.

The group calling themselves Presbyterian Women is not just all of the females that attend worship at First Presbyterian Church.
This is a structured arrangement for women of all ages to participate as much or as little as they would like in various opportunities for fellowship and/or service projects. There are many ways to do so.
Circles meet monthly
. While there is a procedure to "join" a
circle each year, women can certainly decide to visit any
of the 4 circles at any of the monthly meetings. Guests are
warmly welcomed. There is a lesson
,
food, and
friendship to be found at these meetings,
as well as
many various service projects going on throughout
the
year. Some examples of circle activities include taking meals to the mothers and children at the MAC House, food drives for CCM, or meeting the needs of women at CVAN or the Opportunity House.
The
leadership team of the PW
also coordinates committees to help with special transportation, the backpack program, serving meals at the night shelter, or visiting our special VIPs through our PW Care Team.
Lastly, the PW host several events during the year, such as Spiced Sunday in the fall, or the Joy Offering Dinner in the winter, or the Spiritual Nurture Event in the spring. All women at First Presbyterian are invited to any of these events.
This spring, please consider joining us in any or all of the activities of the Presbyterian Women. It is a great way to truly get to know other women in our church family better. You will be glad you did!!

Recommendations for Church Officers
|
The congregation is invited to make recommendations of church members to serve a 3-year term on the Session or the Board of Deacons beginning in June 2018.
For
Board of Deacons candidates, think of members who have gifts for congregational care and passion for community outreach. Alongside the pastors, deacons are spiritual leaders who provide spiritual care and other help to the people of our congregation. They also organize and carry out mission work in the community and beyond. They welcome and greet visitors, assist in worship and help to assimilate new members in the church. Deacons also organize fellowship activities in the congregation.
For
Session candidates, think of members who are committed disciples of Jesus Christ who possess the wisdom and discernment to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit. Elders on the Session oversee all work of the church, including administrative, budgetary and personnel matters; building and grounds maintenance; worship, music and sacraments; Christian education programs; stewardship and giving; and many other issues related to our mission and ministries. Working hand and hand with the "teaching elders" (i.e., ministers of word and sacrament), ruling elders make decisions that seek to follow the will of God in all these matters. In accordance with the Book of Order, the Session also has oversight over the work of the Board of Deacons.
The Congregational Nominating Committee will meet on February 22nd to consider names for nominees for the Classes of 2021. Please email your suggestions to
Deborah Mesimer by Wednesday, February 21st.
