This Sunday is Baptism of the Lord Sunday


This Sunday is the start of a three week sermon series and worship theme designed to complement our month-long faith formation classes for children, youth and adulst that are focusing on worship and sacraments. This week we will be hearing about baptism and communion, January 18th is prayer, and January 25th will focus on the history of Christian worship as a history of change. For more than just our worship emphases, join the pastors in the Intro to Christian Worship class.


Peter Henry will be preaching his sermon, entitled "Water and Wine" based on Matthew 26:20-30 and Matthew 3:13-17.

 

The music will be provided by David Brinson, Sarah Lynch, the Chancel and Geneva Choirs, and the Music Team.


This Sunday the Session of Davidson College Presbyterian Church ordains and/or installs the following members as officers at DCPC and in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Deacons: Catherine Bragg, Chuck Caputo, James Dula, Laurie Eckart, Lee Kiley, Matt Merrell and John Tate. Elders: Eli Brake, Shawn Copeland, Steve Donnell, Lisa Dula, Art Gooray, Polly Griffin, Martha Johnston, Emmett Montgomery, Chase O’Brien and Scott Steiger.                               


There is a traditional 8:30 service in Lingle Chapel, an informal service at 9:30 in the Sanctuary, and a traditional service at 11:00 in the Sanctuary. All services are also live-streamed to Facebook and YouTube including a Live Chat feature. The 11:00 service will air on WDAV (89.9 or WDAV.org).

This Sunday for Youth

Donuts & Devotion 9:45am-10:45am - 6th-12th graders hangout on Sunday mornings in the Burris Gathering Space to catch up, eat a donut, and do a short devotion together. Youth Dinner is from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the Congregation House with fellowship and learning to follow from 6-7. Dinner is free. Come join us!

 

Love and Logic meets in the Congregation House ABC - A 6-week Parenting Class is being offered beginning January 11th during the Sunday School hour. Contact Jenny Alexander (jalexander@dcpc.org) for more information or register by Realm.


Introduction to Christian Worship The pastors of DCPC are leading a three-week Sunday school class about Christian worship. What is its history, what makes it Christian, what makes it worship, how many sacraments… lots of questions. We have answers! January 11th, 18th and 25th at 9:45 a.m.

 

Reformation Tour to Germany and Switzerland – registration is now open for this September 2026 trip. Registration forms can be found in the Burris Gathering Space and by clicking this link. $300 for each traveler is due at the time of registration and all registrations are due by January 15, 2026. DCPC's Nicaragua Partnership Team is meeting Sunday afternoon, January 11, at 5 pm in Room 216. All interested in the Nicaragua Partnership are invited to join us. If you cannot join in person and would like the Zoom link, please contact Robert Alexander. We hope to hear from former CEPAD staff member and DCPC friend, Anita Taylor, as well as discuss the future of our partnership with the seven communities of Kilambe, Nicaragua.

Grief Group Forming Our next 5-week grief group will start on Thursday January 15th. Each week’s gathering will run from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the Parlor and we will use two resources called Good Grief and the Good Grief Journal. No need to RSVP. People on the journey of grief for any reason are welcome to join.

Congregational Meeting


The annual congregational meeting to receive the annual report, to act upon proposed changes to pastors’ terms of call and to act upon the report of the Elections Committee is Sunday, February 1st, immediately following 10:00 a.m. worship.

We are heading into the highest demand for beds and still have opportunities available for anyone who is willing to provide an hour or two to support our unhoused neighbors.
