by Pam Durso
My most favoriite day of the year is coming up soon! Baptist Women in Ministry will host its annual gathering on June 24, 2020 , at Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

Get this date on your calendars and make plans to come!

Join us at 8:30 a.m. in the church’s fellowship hall for an informal time of conversation, fellowship, and a light breakfast. There is no charge to attend, but a contribution of $10 would be excitedly received.

Worship on Wednesday, June 24 begins at 10:00 a.m., and Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church is located at 2715 Peachtree Road Northeast. The preacher for our service is Dr. Molly T. Marshall, president of Central Baptist Theological Seminary, Shawnee, Kansas. Molly is a founding mother of Baptist Women in Ministry.

Our worship leader is our good friend, Dr. Ossie X. McKinney, minister of music at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia.

This year's gathering will be filled with great music, strong preaching, and beautiful worship! Come join us.
SUPPORTING BWIM
All the work Baptist Women in Ministry does and all the ways in which this organization contributes to the shift in Baptist culture happen because of people like you who believe in and support our ministry and who share in our mission of affirming all those whom God has gifted for ministry.

We would love for you to make a gift and join with us in this good work BWIM is doing. Your support makes all of this possible.
MONTH OF PREACHING
Baptist Women in Ministry welcomes your congregation to participate in Month of Preaching this month! It's NOT too late!

If your church invites a woman preacher in a month other than February, please know we are not legalistic, and we hope you will register your church's participation!

Here's how you can be part:

First, invite a woman into your pulpit to preach one Sunday in February (or March or April or May), and consider asking a first-time preacher—a high school, college, or seminary student. Be an encouraging church, one in which the voices of young women and new-to-preaching women will be celebrated and affirmed.

Second, fill out the form below to send information about your participation, including contact information for your preacher.

Third, email BWIM a picture of your preacher in the pulpit. We will post the pictures on Facebook and Instagram and celebrate together the preaching gifts of women. Email the picture to lynnbrinkley @bwim.info .

Fourth, use the four bulletin inserts that will be provided for the four Sundays of February. The inserts are available on the BWIM website and can be accessed by clicking  here .  Share the inserts with your church members, and introduce them to four significant Baptist preaching women.
Fifth, make a financial contribution to BWIM in honor of your preacher. Celebrate and affirm her preaching by giving to this organization whose mission is to advocate for and support the giftedness of women.

Baptist Women in Ministry invites you to remember and honor Baptist preaching women of the past and to celebrate the giftedness of Baptist woman who continue to proclaim the gospel today.

Our great thanks to all who have already registered and sent great photos!
SECOND SHORT FILM FEATURING A FEMALE PASTOR RELEASED
“No. 2: Tonya,” produced in partnership by Baptist Women in Ministry and EthicsDaily.com, premiered on November 8, 2019 at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. The film is now available to stream online for free via BWIM.info and EthicsDaily.com.

Tonya Easterly Vickery, co-pastor of Cullowhee Baptist Church, with her husband, Jeffrey, is the focus of this second film in the series.

“This newest film release by BWIM-EthicsDaily features funny stories, sweet stories, and hard stories from Tonya's ministry journey and highlights her family's commitment to and their vision for shared ministry and leadership,” says Pam Durso, executive director of Baptist Women in Ministry and a producer of the film.

The 20-minute film is structured around Tonya’s work within a co-pastoring model, and it features interviews with Tonya, Jeffrey, their two daughters, and four church members.
“My friend, Tonya Vickery, is living proof that co-pastoring can be done and done beautifully.” The Vickerys have co-pastored Cullowhee Baptist for eighteen years.

“Theirs is a collaborative ministry,” adds Durso. “They share the pulpit. They make decisions as a team. And they have created a radically relational community at Cullowhee Baptist Church, where the priesthood of the believer is not simply a concept. It is the lived reality of their congregation.
ORDINATION RESOURCES
Baptist Women in Ministry has gathered ordination resources that can help with the planning of an ordination service, including litanies, poems, blessings, responses, and charges, all used in previous ordination services.

Our website also has resources for pastoral installation services. We hope these resources will be helpful to you as you prepare for your significant days of celebration.

If you have ordiantion or installation resources that you would like to share with BWIM, email them to pamdurso@bwim.info.
Nicole Yvonne Duncan-Smith was ordained on December 18, 2019 by St. Paul Community Baptist Church, Brooklyn, New York.
THE BWIM BLOG
Baptist Women in Ministry posts blogs every Wednesday and Friday. The 2020 Wednesday blogs have reflected our theme for this year: "For all has been, Thanks! For all that is to come, YES!"--Dag Hammarskjold.

Every Friday, the blog , "THIS IS WHAT A MINISTER LOOKS LIKE," features an interview with an amazing minister. On February 14, Shay Easter-Bills, pastor of St. Paul's Baptist Church, Paris, Texas, was the minister interviewed. Shay IS what a minister looks like!
MINISTRY SEARCH RESOURCES
Baptist Women in Ministry offers resources and assistance both to churches searching for a minister and ministers searching for a new position.

Churches and candidates in need of assistance may now submit information, job descriptions, and resumes online via BWIM’s Ministry Search Registration Forms. BWIM’s assistance is provided as a ministry, and there are no fees for these services.
SAFE CHURCHES and MINISTERS:
CLERGY SEXUAL ABUSE RESOURCES
The Clergy Sexual Misconduct Task Force, a joint partnership between Baptist Women in Ministry and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, have released two significant resources developed for use by churches, seminaries, and partnering organizations.  "Safe Churches and Ministers"  is an educational video that introduces this tough topic and provides much-needed definitions, statistics, and stories that are designed to help churches, students, and leaders take seriously their responsibility in preventing abuse. The video is accompanied by a leader guide and a discussion guide and is available in both English and Spanish.

"Clergy Sexual Abuse Prevention Recommendations for Churches"  is a collection of prevention guidelines and documents intended to prompt congregations to create their own policies, procedures, processes and covenants.  This resource will assist churches in holding clergy and lay leaders accountable and will prepare churches to respond appropriately if abuse is reported.

The release of these two resources marks an important milestone in the work of the Task Force and we are committed to continue forward in our efforts. We ask that you pray for the task force as we keep working to bring attention to and educate those in our Baptist circles about clergy sexual abuse.
