On February 1, 2021, members of the Myanmar military seized control and declared a year-long state of emergency. The country's elected leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, and members of her party are now under house arrest. As a result, all ethnic and religious minorities as well as actors of conscience and conviction are in grave danger.

We have heard from on-the-ground leaders of social media blackouts as well as blackouts of major news channels. Healthcare workers have been told any protest would result in their immediate arrest.

"Our people have lived under military dictatorship for more than 60 years, and the thought of our children and grandchildren having to go through this life cycle again is a dreadful thought," shared a Baptist leader. "We have no guns but a God that protects us. Even though we walk through the darkest valley, we will fear no evil."

We acknowledge the solidarity shared by the millions of Baptists and non-Baptists alike in the face of the suffering caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic. We also recognize our responsibility to participate in the solution to this crisis. Would you join me and Baptists from around the world in signing a petition calling for equitable global access to vaccinations?
The Fire Prayer

Holy Spirit, set me on fire with your wisdom,
so that I may love only that which is holy.

Holy Spirit, enlighten me with your understanding,
so that I may perceive only that which is holy.

Holy Spirit, kindle in me your counsel,
so that I may see only that which is holy.

Holy Spirit, inflame me with your strength,
so that I may desire only that which is holy.

Holy Spirit, pour out your knowledge upon me,
so that I may do only that which is holy.

Holy Spirit, give me ardent devotion,
so that I may seek only that which is holy.

Holy Spirit, make me blaze in the fear of God
so that I may never again lose that which is holy.
