The West Virginia State Bar's Veteran and Military Affairs Committee has adopted Toys for Tots as its 2024 Service Project. If you plan to participate in the Committee’s November 12 CLE program, or you want to make a child’s Christmas happier, please consider participating in the Service Project. Collection boxes will be dropped off in the Charleston area on October 7, 2024. The boxes will be picked up the week of December 2. If you are interested in participating in the service project by hosting a box, please contact Anita Casey at caseya@wvbar.org before October 4, 2024. If you wish to make a monetary contribution, or wish to drop off a toy anywhere else in the State, please also contact Anita. She can assist in coordinating either or both.

CLE

Bridge the Gap CLE Rule

State Bar Administrative Rule 6.03 requires all newly admitted lawyers to complete the mandatory Bridge the Gap program sponsored by the State Bar within 24 months after admission. The next programs are scheduled for October 4, 2024 at the Hotel Morgan in Morgantown, WV and April 4, 2025 at The Greenbrier in conjunction with the State Bar Annual Meeting. Failure to complete the program within the time established in the rule will result in suspension of the member’s license to practice law. You may qualify for an exemption if you have been admitted to practice in another jurisdiction for a minimum of 5 years, or you have completed a comparable mandatory new lawyer training program offered by the state bar of another jurisdiction of at least 7 credits, including 2 credits of legal ethics, office management, attorney well-being, or elimination of bias in the legal profession. Information about applying for an exemption can be found at https://wvyounglawyers.com/members/bridge-the-gap/. Questions regarding the program should be sent to Samantha Chase at chases@wvbar.org.
