Colleton House and grounds was bought in the 1980's by Mr. Frank Rickwood; an Australian oil tycoon with a great interest in the artifacts of Papua, New Guinea. Mr. Rickwood spent his early career traversing Papua, New Guinea in pursuit of oil on behalf of the Australian Petroleum Company in the mid-1940s. It was here that he first found an interest in the culture and art of Papua, New Guinea; an interest that would follow him through his career and  that he would eventually find a place for in an old stable in Barbados.

Mr. Rickwood retired from his illustrious career in 1980 and in 1988 bought Colleton Plantation and immediately began renovations. He initially upgradedthe main house so that he could live in it while the remaining structures were worked on. Mr. Rickwood maintained the original façade of all of the buildings at Colleton, and as much of the original interiors as possible, so as to preserve the wonderful, rich history of this beautiful property and this beautiful island.
