Friday night: August 21, 2020
On Friday we finalized an MOU regarding the five paid days that will be extra for the 2020-2021 school year. At least three of those days will be paid in your September paycheck and the rest will be paid no later than your October paycheck. The three days of paid professional development have been partially mandated by OSPI. The other two days will be for inventory and distribution purposes. One of the distribution days will be the 28th or the 31st, and the other distribution day will be decided at the building level. Hopefully, we can get the rest of the reopening MOU finished soon. The first training on Monday will be on learning platforms. The district has agreed to allow teachers to use SeeSaw as one of the platforms. The logistics of this should be explained to you on Monday.
The KEA and KSD Bargaining teams met most of the day on Thursday, and all afternoon and into the night on Friday. The KEA team was so hopeful to reach a tentative agreement by Friday night. We offered to bargain until we reached a tentative agreement, but KSD declined our offer. So....back to bargaining on Saturday.
We are cautiously optimistic that it is possible this weekend, but the KEA team doesn't back down on issues that we know are important to all of you!
The team did remind the district team that we will be holding a general membership meeting on Monday, August 24, at 5:00. We will be voting on a tentative agreement, or voting to take other action. Both sides would prefer to have a tentative agreement to vote on.
Preregister for the GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Regardless of the outcome of our marathon bargaining sessions, we will hold our General Membership meeting on Monday, August 24, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. This will be a very large meeting using the Zoom platform. Only KEA members will be allowed to attend. Any new employees can join the union at www.washingtonea.org/ejoin if they want to attend and participate in the 2020 KEA General Membership meeting.
Once you register, you should get an email from Zoom that will have a direct link to access the meeting at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2020.
