The Seattle Education Association is the voice for educators and our students, standing united to address the needs of our community during this pandemic and to transform our district into an anti-racist school system where every student thrives.
Breaking News!
Governor Inslee announced today he is ordering school districts to offer an in-person option for all students in grades K-6 by April 5 and grades 7-12 by April 19. In his proclamation, he mandated that all school districts must offer at least 30% of weekly instruction in-person, on-site (approximately 10 hours/week) with a minimum of two days each week (half-days count). With our bargaining team in non-stop bargaining, we have not had time to fully process how this will impact the current negotiations.
From the Bargaining Table (not taking into account the Governor's proclamation)

SEA’s bargaining team has been meeting with SPS every day this week, all day and long into the night to work towards an agreement that meets the needs of our school community – our charge before Governor Inslee’s proclamation today. Our bargaining team is at the table non-stop this week fighting to ensure we have informed consent, clearly communicated health and safety protocols and accountability, leaves and accommodations, as well as other concerns raised throughout this process.

Our bargaining team believes we can reach a tentative agreement (TA) with SPS in the coming days. Upon reaching a TA, we would disseminate the TA to members so that everyone has time to read and process the proposed changes. We will host at least two different meetings to answer questions before any official vote to ratify the TA.

We will continue to keep members updated as best as we can with our progress at the table. Please send questions to sea@washingtonea.org.
