Teacher/Occasional Teacher Central Bargaining: OLRB Hearing Regarding Hiring Practices

On Monday, November 14, 2022, ETFO’s application to the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) was heard. The OLRB has been asked to decide whether hiring practices should be negotiated centrally at the ETFO Teacher/Occasional Teacher Central Table or locally during local bargaining.

At the virtual hearing, arguments were made by legal counsel for ETFO, OPSBA and the government. The hearing concluded during the early evening of November 14, 2022.

At the hearing, ETFO legal counsel requested a “bottom-line” decision from OLRB Vice-Chair Jesse Kugler in order to expedite the process. A bottom-line decision means that the decision is issued with “reasons” to follow. ETFO will advise members once a decision has been issued by the OLRB Vice-Chair.
