A message from your County Commissioner | |
September is filled with celebrations and remembrances. We proudly recognize Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the Hispanic and Latino American community, including traditions and their contributions to our country's history.
September also carries a somber note as we remember the impact of Sept. 11, 2001, on our nation. It's a day to honor the lives lost and the strength that emerged from tragedy.
We also observe National Recovery Month, acknowledging the challenges and resilience many individuals and families experience on the path to recovery. Let us offer our support and empathy to those in need.
Together, we aspire to build a community where cultural diversity is celebrated, unity triumphs and compassion guides us all.

At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Sept. 12, 2023, Mayor Gregg K. Weiss presented a proclamation declaring Sept. 15-Oct. 15, 2023, as Hispanic Heritage Month in Palm Beach County. Hispanics of every race, class and multiple nationalities have made historic contributions to the growth and strength of Palm Beach County in countless recorded and unrecorded ways. | |
Indian Trails Grove Agricultural Reserve Exchange Timeline | |

Constituents have been asking for the timeline for the GL Homes matter regarding the Indian Trails Grove Agricultural Reserve Exchange from the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners. This information was provided by the Palm Beach County Planning, Zoning and Building Department.
The Zoning Commission will hear the Indian Trails Grove Planned Urban Development (PUD), West Hyder Agricultural Reserve PUD and other assorted Agricultural Reserve PUDs associated with the exchange on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, at 9 a.m., in the Ken Rodgers Hearing Room at the Vista Center (2300 North Jog Road, West Palm Beach 33411). The commission will recommend zoning approvals, requested uses and waivers and make final decisions on any variances.
The Board of County Commissioners will hold a final adoption public hearing on Tuesday, Oct.24, 2023, in the Jane M. Thompson Memorial Chambers (301 North Olive Ave., West Palm Beach 33401) for the Comprehensive Plan amendment known as the Indian Trails Grove Agricultural Reserve Exchange (LGA 2022-021), which proposes a site-specific and text amendments for the Indian Trails Grove, and text amendments for the West Hyder Overlay within the county’s Comprehensive Plan. The board previously transmitted this amendment to state agencies for review on May 3, 2023. The board will also hear all the related zoning items from the Zoning Commission and make final decisions on rezonings, development order amendments, use approvals, waivers and release agreements.

September is National Falls Prevention Awareness Month | | |

Falls are the leading cause of trauma in Palm Beach County. Every 11 seconds, an older adult is seen in an emergency room for a fall-related injury. Many of these injuries can cause lifetime restrictions and even death. September is nationally recognized as Falls Prevention Awareness Month. The multi-agency collaborative intends to bring education and access to resources determined to decrease falls and promote mobility and independence during this month at facilities that see high volumes of seniors in five locations across Palm Beach County.
There will be free health screenings, services, resource information and an education mini-lecture series by local physicians. Local Fire Rescue departments will make a presentation about what happens when Fire Rescue arrives on the scene after someone falls.

Bringing Palm Beach County to YOU! | |
In our extremely busy lives, contacting a governmental agency and asking for assistance is difficult. It is even more difficult to take time off of work to go to the county’s governmental center in downtown West Palm Beach, have to look for parking and pay the fees just to access YOUR government. Not anymore. We are excited to announce that we will begin District 3 office hours on October 4, from 10 a.m.-11 p.m., at the Palm Beach County Library Greenacres Branch at 3750 Jog Road, Greenacres 33467. We are very pleased to be able to bring the county government to YOU! Please come with any questions or concerns you have with Palm Beach County government, and we will connect you with the proper department for a resolution. As always, we are here to serve. | |

This industry is vital to The Palm Beaches and a terrific way to build a career. The job fair welcomes potential job applicants of all skill levels seeking positions in hotels, attractions, culinary and more. New for this year are workshops on resume writing, soft skills and why working in hospitality and tourism is right for you.
