From The Pastor

"Life in community in no less than a necessity for us - it is an inescapable 'must' that determines everything we do and think. Yet it is not our good intentions of efforts that have been decisive in our choosing this way of life. Rather, we have been overwhelmed by a certainty - a certainty that has its origin and power in the Source of everything that exists. We acknowledge God as this Source. We must live in continuity because all life created by God exists in a communal order and works toward community" Eberhard Arnold was a German pastor, theologian, anti-Nazi dissident, and co-founder of the Bruderhof.

A recent Sunday Service Live Stream

Art as Conversation: Interdisciplinary Tools for Fostering Engagement

Who it's for: Creators making work for others to experience-including writers, artists, and musicians.

When: Saturday September 30, 10:30-3:30

Where: Hummingbird Center for Common Ground, 100 Walker Rd, Berlin, VT 05602

How can we better involve and intrigue those who encounter our creative works? Drawing from a multidisciplinary background (in poetry, improvisation, classical and folk music, visual art, conceptual art, and theater), creative professional Elisabeth Blair will share an array of practical techniques and approaches for enhancing the connection between creator and encounter.

You'll learn and apply helpful ways of approaching readers / listeners / viewers as active conversation partners rather than passive audience members.

This workshop can comfortably host 15 participants; there is some wiggle room above that if interest is high.

Workshop info & fees:

All attendees will receive free coffee/tea and a light continental refreshment. Participants should bring their own lunch.

· Sliding scale workshop fees are $50-$80. Please pay what you can, within that range.

· Do you have *extra* resources? If you are able to pay more than $80, that amount will go toward sponsoring someone who is not able to pay.

· Do you have *low* resources? If you are not able to pay, please select the waitlist option. You will be contacted if sponsored spots become available; no questions asked.

Bible Study

This fall, Pastor Leigh will be leading us in a study of the letters of Paul and the history in Acts that goes with them. If you want to learn the "back story" of some of the New Testament, plan to come in person or on Zoom. Thursdays, starting September 14 for six weeks. Email Pastor Leigh if you are interested.

Rockfire Fundraiser

We made a grand total of $954 for our Pie Sale at Rockfire! Expenses were $330, so after subtracting, we made a profit of $624. Thanks to everyone who baked pies, helped cut pies, and helped sell pie slices. A special thanks to Linda Kiniry, Sally Beebe, and Peter James who went above and beyond in helping.

The money will be given to flood relief.

Garden Party

It’s almost time to put our splendid garden to bed. Please join Bonita Cortese and Cary Friberg on Sunday, Oct 15 from 11 am to 3 pm on the front lawn. You can give 1 hour or 4 or something in between. Here are our chores:

Pull up the annuals

Trim the perennials

Pull up weeds

Rake and make everything neat and tidy

Then…plant over 200 daffodil and tulip bulbs to delight us in the spring!

Bring your garden gloves, knee pads, rakes, trowels, garden snippers, a tarp, and anything else you think we might need. I will bring my truck to haul away the tarp(s) filled with debris.

Thanks! Come have fun and get things done.
