Good afternoon.

On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with an elaborate celebration in Washington, DC.

On July 28th, 2025 America250 kicked off their nationwide initiative, Our American Story, a year long, national movement to collect and preserve distinctly American stories of real people sharing stories of friends, neighbors, community leaders, or anyone whose stories need to be preserved. “These stories will serve as a vibrant tapestry of perspectives, values, and memories that reflect the diverse spirit of our nation.”

In Arizona, the America250 Arizona Commission built an interactive "Passport250" to highlight 250 remarkable places across Arizona, from iconic landmarks and hidden gems that reflect the history of the Arizona experience. The goal is to encourage all Arizonans to reflect on Arizona’s place in the history of America throughout the year.

In Glendale, we will be celebrating next year in grand style of course, but along the way, we are planning events to honor our active military and veterans, patriotic concerts and community events, and activities for kids to learn about America’s history.

And for those of you who don’t already know, Arizona gave women the right to vote within months of becoming a state in 1912, well before the 19th Amendment ratified on August 18, 1920. So, in honor of the 250th anniversary of our country I intend to donate to and fundraise for the national initiative to design and construct the Women’s Suffrage National Monument on the Capitol Mall.

I will keep you posted on all the upcoming events to look out for in the coming year, and as always, keep cool and stay hydrated!

CITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Glendale Officer Saves Dog

A Glendale police officer came to the rescue after multiple people called 911 for help saving a little white dog who fell into the canal near 77th Lane and Georgia Avenue according to a video officials posted on Facebook.

People held flashlights on the dog while the officer removed his equipment and shoes to prepare to jump into the water. A woman could be heard crying on the video, until finally the officer could be heard say "I got it! I got it!" before jumping into the water and retrieving the dog and returning it to its "thankful" owner.

Safety First!

Look Left, Right, then Left

Back to school means kids, cars, and more kids. Kids with electronics and other distractions. Drivers with their own distractions including dropping off kids at school and daycare. Distracted driving AND distracted pedestrians are a dangerous mix that can be made worse by a change in travel habits for Back to School. So this season, minimize all distractions and maintain focus on driving by:

  • Utilizing tech features like "Do Not Disturb" or hands-free calling.
  • Planning your route and having music or podcasts cued up in advance.
  • Encouraging friends and family to join you in practicing safe driving habits.
