Good afternoon.

For those of you who are not kicking off the weekend by attending the Chris Stapleton concert for one of two sold-out shows, I thought I would take a minute to share with you some first impressions of the $42M investment we made in Desert Diamond Arena- the Crown Jewel of the Glendale Entertainment District.

I had the privilege of taking a sneak peek at the state-of-the-art renovation the City undertook to overhaul the fan experience at the Arena and I can honestly say that I am profoundly impressed.

The scope of the renovation project spans over 25 separate spaces across the facility with the goal of creating a “first-class experience for every guest, from general admission attendees to premium club members” and putting the facility on par with the best venues in the business. Complementing the renovation of existing spaces and a new upscale Grab & Go area, the project includes four new premium spaces: Bassline Bar, Encore Club on Three, Studio 623 and The View Lounge & Bar. I personally can feel equally at home at a hole-in-the wall joint or a swankier venue, but I can tell you that this transformation certainly cements our profile as a top-tier sports and entertainment mecca for tourists and locals alike.

Our strong partnership with venue manager ASM Global continues to deliver the record-breaking box office success year after year that we have come to expect now that we are laser focused on world-class concerts and signature sporting events. I hope you take in an event soon to see the remarkable transformation.

We are back to work next week for Workshop and Formal Session on August 12, so until then, keep cool and stay hydrated!

CITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Purab Adabala Named Director of Transportation

Posted on 07/31/2025

A long-time city of Glendale employee with extensive experience in transportation planning, capital programming and community knowledge will be the new Transportation Director. In his new role, Purab Adabala will manage all facets of the city’s transportation department, including the Glendale Regional Airport, transit services and the pavement management program.

Adabala has been with the city for 18 years, first joining the department as a transportation planner in 2007. He advanced through his career serving as a Senior Transportation Analyst before being selected as the Transportation Planning Administrator and eventually being promoted to Deputy Director of Transportation in 2022.

“Purab Adabala brings a level of engineering expertise and community knowledge that makes him uniquely qualified to lead the city’s transportation department,” said Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps. “His demonstrated leadership through one of the city’s largest Capital Improvement Plan implementations confirms his ability to take on this critically important role.”

Significant transportation infrastructure projects, including transportation and airport master plans, will be a top priority for Adabala. He will also continue to lead the staff involved in traffic signals, roadway signs, pavement markings and the traffic education programs.

“I'm excited to lead the Glendale Transportation team into a new chapter,” said Adabala. “The city has an excellent Transportation team that takes pride in improving lives of the people we serve every day. I'm committed to fostering that collaborative environment where everyone is empowered to contribute their best work.”

Adabala earned a master’s degree in urban planning from University of Kansas and a holds bachelor’s degree in architecture from Andhra University.

JULY CRASH STATS

Glendale Police stats show a total of 367 crashes in the city for July. In one month, 367 vehicle crashes-- in one month! A little math tells us that is 11.84 VEHICLE CRASHES PER DAY!

Distracted driving is dangerous and the inevitable crashes are exorbitantly expensive in myriad ways including time lost from work, repair bills, medical bills, and skyrocketing insurance premiums.

There is a reason why Arizona ranks 5th in the nation for percentage of household income spent on auto insurance premiums. It's because there are 12 crashes per day in ONE CITY ALONE.

So hey, let's be careful out there!
