Dear Barrel Residents,

I’m back! Yes, as the kids say, it’s been a minute. I hope you’ve all been doing well, and like me, managing the ebb and flow of life. And it’s not just me that’s back. I now have a Council Assistant named Cheryl who you can contact in my office if you need anything at all.

There has been a lot happening around Glendale to get excited about lately so let me catch you up.

Likely one of the more impressive things to happen was the city being recognized as the “Best City for Business” by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry. I am particularly proud of this honor because it says that we make it easy to get business done-efficiently and effectively. We certainly have built stellar partnerships with Mario Andretti, VAI Resort, and Mattel. And staff will always go the extra mile for our smaller, independent businesses. But it's especially gratifying to be noticed for what we do naturally.

Murphy Park Open House – I hope you had a chance to see the preliminary landscaping plans for the refresh of Murphy Park at the open house last week. After a long hiatus, we are moving into final decision-making as to the scope of the project and we need your input. This item will be discussed in its entirety at the next Council Workshop on June 24th so you can catch it there. Also, in our next and final Workshop until after the summer recess, staff will review the development options and public input regarding the Velma Teague Library. Make sure to tune in.

Downtown Campus Reinvestment Project – As we move into the final phases of construction, I suggest you also take a moment to watch Oakland Construction build our brand-new city hall to replace the 40-year-old structure our city has outgrown. You can watch the progress on the fast motion construction cam from Glendaleaz.com

Only one more Workshop and Formal Council Meeting before the summer recess but staff is still here keeping the gears moving and city business humming along.

Now don’t worry, I’ll continue to fill you in on what we may have missed over the past few months, as well as provide you weekly updates on Council actions as they occur.

All my best to each of you, and as always, keep cool and stay hydrated!
