Greetings!
In our Workshop meeting this week the Council provided consensus on moving forward with creating a Veterans Court to handle city court cases involving veterans in which one’s specific circumstances regarding crime, addiction, mental health, unemployment, and/or homelessness can best be addressed through counseling, peer support, and targeted services to achieve accountability and restitution. Other west-valley cities will be invited to join in this effort thus creating a regional effort that is targeted to begin in October.

The Council also reviewed the draft of our next ten-year Parks Master Plan for Glendale. One innovative component is the addition of a disparity report, suggested by Councilmember Aldama, which seeks to identify gaps in service to various neighborhoods or demographic groups. The draft plan will be presented to our Parks and Recreation Commission for their input prior to final Council adoption.

The Council also received an update on GlendaleOne, our new public service portal for Glendale residents. Over 27,000 requests for service or information have been received and processed in just its first year. You can check out all that GlendaleOne can do for you by clicking HERE or by downloading GlendaleOne to your smartphone.

In our Voting Meeting, the Council approved using city parks, police and fire stations, and other city land and buildings as collateral in a financing plan known as Certificates of Participation in order to more fully fund our public safety pension fund and save as much as $80 million or more in interest over the next 17 years. I’m happy to announce our city libraries will be fully open to the public beginning Monday — and with more hours of operation than even before the COVID pandemic began. All three branches will be open every day of the week during the hours listed in the box below.

All Glendale Public Libraries will resume full service on April 19, 2021.

Patron mask use will not be required; however, masks are available upon request.

Sunday           1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Monday           12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday          10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Wednesday     10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Thursday         10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Friday              10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday         10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

**All locations will be closed April 16-18 to prepare for reopening.**
Glendale Adult Center

 The Adult Center is scheduled to reopen in June, following the completion of some repair work that has been on-going during it's closure due to COVID-19.
City of Glendale Reopening Plan
Our reopening plan is transitioning into phase 3. Staff is working to fully open facilities and programs on April 19th, with some exceptions. Below are some facilities of interest and the projected timing of their reopening:
  • City Hall – fully opened on April 19th
  • Libraries – fully opened on April 19th
  • Outdoor Parks – Fully opened unless under construction on April 19th
  • Ramadas and amenities all available for rent or use on April 19th
  • FRAC – Due to staffing limitations, FRAC will continue to operate under limited days and hours of operation. We are beginning the hiring process to bring more staff on board. As they are hired and trained we will make adjustments until we are eventually able to fully open and return to normal days and hours of operations. We will provide updates to the Council and community regarding any updates as they occur.
  • Pools – Fully open on June 7th at FRAC and June 8th at Rose Lane.
  • Adult Center – The center is currently undergoing construction renovations that will prohibit it from opening until the work is completed. Staff is working towards early June to have it reopened with normal days and hours of operation.
  • Gila River Arena – ASM will manage the use of the facility consistent with NHL COVID protocols for Coyotes games, and with ASM facility standards for non-NHL events.
  • Camelback Ranch- Will be managed by the teams under MLB protocols.

The Glendale Family Bike Ride goes virtual for 2021!
Register online, grab your helmet, check your bike, and take your family on a 6-mile bike ride in Glendale anytime between Saturday, April 10 through Saturday, April 17. There are several bike paths and trails available in Glendale. You can find them on our website or check out the MAG Bikeways Map at https://geo.azmag.gov/maps/bikemap/
Each participant who completes the ride will receive a Glendale Family Bike Ride fanny pack!

The performances will take place at Murphy Park’s Amphitheater on Thursday – Sunday nights. Each evening, a different band will take the stage. This is a chance to plan a date night or an outing with family or friends and experience the local music scene under the stars.

The series kicks off on Thursday, May 6, 2021.
All concerts begin at 7 p.m. and are free of charge. There is also plenty of free parking.

Spring is in the air, which means it is also
outdoor cat breeding season

Outdoor cats include community cats (stray lost and abandoned pet cats and unsocialized feral cats) as well as owned cats that are allowed to roam. Reducing the number of community cats and managing their care is the goal of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs. The goal of the TNR programs is to get as many of these outdoor cats, spayed and neutered as possible to control breeding.

COVID-19 VACCINE
Maricopa County has made the COVID-19 vaccine available for all people 16 years and older starting March 24.
Slots fill up quickly so we encourage you to look for a vaccine appointment as soon as possible. If you can't find an appointment, please check your county's site daily for the latest updates.

April is National Poetry Month! Get those creative ideas flowing and craft your very own Magnetic Poetry Board! Kits are fully assembled and ready for pick up at any Glendale Public Library.
Available to teens 12-18. 
I introduced an idea designed to remind drivers of the importance of driving safely on neighborhood streets. 
They are 18" x 24" signs, red on one side and yellow on the other.
