Last evening the Glendale Planning Commission considered Empire Group's request to rezone 17.4 acres near the southeast corner of 53rd Avenue and Olive Avenue from commercial to residential to allow for the development of 208 single-story, detached, rental apartments. Following comments from several area residents and a thorough discussion of traffic impacts, landscape buffers and other issues, the Commission voted 6-0 to recommend denial of the rezoning application. Empire Group has the option of proceeding forward to the City Council meeting on June 25th, requesting a delay so they can make adjustments to their proposal, or withdrawing their application altogether. I will keep you posted!
Three construction projects are currently underway in the Barrel District! The AutoZone and the Mountain America Credit Union are moving along nicely at 59th Avenue and Northern. You may have noticed Z's Auto Care and U-Haul on the southwest corner of 59th Avenue and Olive Avenue is currently being demolished. This is to make way for the construction of a new Starbuck's! And yes, there will be a drive-thru lane for your commuting pleasure.
Lastly, the Council is looking for two residents to appoint to our new Audit Committee. If you have knowledge of financial reporting, accounting, auditing or relevant fields and are interested in serving on this committee please see the notice below and apply
