Barrington 220 Safety Week Sept. 20-24
Barrington 220's 3rd Annual Safety Week kicks off on Monday, Sept. 20. Throughout the week all schools will participate in safety drills that are mandated by the State of Illinois, including fire drills, tornado drills, lockdown drills and bus evacuation drills. In addition, each day students will view a short video related to these drills. The topics for each day include the following:

  • MONDAY, Sept. 20: Welcome to Safety Week

  • TUESDAY, Sept. 21: Weather Emergencies (tornado drill)

  • WEDNESDAY, Sept. 22: Run, Hide, Fight (lockdown drill)

  • THURSDAY, Sept. 23: School Evacuations (fire drill)

  • FRIDAY, Sept. 24: Transportation Safety (bus evacuation drill)
Barrington 220 is planning to begin weekly Shield Testing at all schools on Monday, Sept. 13. Shield testing will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by identifying asymptomatic students who are positive. Click here to visit our Shield Testing FAQ sheet.

Construction underway at Prairie, Station and Grove
It was a busy summer in Barrington 220 as construction got underway at BMS-Prairie, BMS-Station and Grove Avenue Elementary as part of the Build 220 projects! Click the links below to view the progress made during the month of August at each school.


Construction at both middle schools is expected to last through November 2022. Construction at Grove Avenue Elementary is expected to last through December 2022. Project work across all D220 schools is expected to last through 2025. View the video below to learn more about the Build 220 initiative.
9/11 museum at BHS to display rare images and artifacts
In honor of the 20th anniversary of 9/11, rare artifacts and
images taken by BHS alumnus and official FDNY
Ground Zero photographer Gary Marlon Suson will
be on display in the Clair E. Smith Gallery at BHS until early November. The exhibit will feature 100 Images and artifacts along with BOSE audio stories narrating the history behind each display. It is a recreation of Suson's 9/11 Museum Workshop in New York, a two-time winner of Trip Advisor’s prestigious “Top 25 Museums in the USA” Award. The exhibit will be open to the public on the dates below. Tours will take place in half hour increments. Space will be limited and all COVID protocols will be followed.

  • Saturday, Sept. 11: 9am-1pm
  • Saturday, Oct. 2: 9am-1pm (prior to Homecoming football game)
  • Saturday, November 6: 9am-1pm
BHS teacher receives Fulbright Award
Congratulations to BHS teacher Heidi Rockwell, who has received the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program Award. As a Fulbright recipient, Rockwell will participate in an online course, an Educational Symposium in Washington D.C. and she will travel abroad to work with a host school for three weeks. This is Rockwell's second time receiving a Fulbright Grant. In 2007 she was awarded the Teacher Exchange Grant and spent the year teaching English as a foreign language in the Czech Republic. This is her 24th year teaching English and Social Studies at BHS.
Substitute hiring fair on Sept. 7 and Sept. 13
Are you interested in working as a substitute in Barrington 220 during the 2021-22 school year? Click here to fill out an application, then attend one of our substitute hiring fairs to get interviewed. These will be open houses that will take place at the District Administrative Center on Tuesday, Sept. 7 from noon-3:30pm and on Friday, Sept. 10 from 9am-12:30pm.

Please note, a valid licensure through the Illinois State Board of Education is required to work as a substitute teacher in the classroom. The daily rate for all substitute teachers is $110. Attention Yahoo email users!
Throughout the past several weeks Google has been classifying a high volume of messages as spam from yahoo.com email addresses. Since Barrington 220 staff use gmail accounts, this may affect many of our parents who use their Yahoo email accounts to communicate with Barrington 220 staff. If you're a parent who uses a Yahoo email account, please contact your child's teacher if you have not heard back and let them know that you sent an email, or use a different email account to communicate. Barrington 220 staff have been made aware of the issue.
Virtual Parent University for families new to D220
Families who are new to the district are invited to join Ty Gorman, Director of Instructional Technology, for a virtual session to learn more about the digital learning environment in Barrington 220. This informative Zoom session will:

  • Introduce families to the One to World iPad program.
  • Provide an introduction to our Learning Management Systems (Schoology & Seesaw).
  • Provide a brief overview of Infinite Campus, our student information
  • system.
  • Discuss strategies for promoting digital health and safety at home.

This virtual session will take place on Wednesday Sept. 15 at 7pm and run approximately one hour. It will be recorded and posted on the Digital Learning Resources for Families website.
Kick off homecoming weekend with Alumni Legends
Please join the Barrington High School Alumni Association and Barrington 220 Educational Foundation for the annual Alumni Legends event! "Sweet Home Barrington" will feature musical performances from the following four gifted BHS alums turned professional musicians: Eric Slingo (BHS' 13), Anne Trenning (BHS '83), David Mazzie (BHS '80) and Inderjeet Sidhu (BHS '86). The event will take place on September 30 in the BHS auditorium. Tickets are $10 each. Click here to purchase tickets!

The theme for Homecoming 2021 is "Around the World". The annual parade down Main Street will be held on Saturday, Oct. 2 beginning at 10am. It will be followed by the varsity football game at Barrington Community Stadium beginning at 1pm.

Instead of sending fliers home in student backpacks, Barrington 220's Virtual Backpack is a place for parents to find important fliers and information from community groups, schools and the district. BCGT hosting virtual Monthly Wisdom program
The Barrington Council for the Gifted and Talented (BCGT) invites students, parents and educators for its first September Monthly Wisdom Program, "How to Study Better, Faster and Learn it All" to discover the defining traits that prescribe genius. Speakers include:

  • Jimmy Kim, Educational Consultant and Co-Founder of Excellerate Learning Studio
  • Dr. Cheryl Peterson, Gifted Education Specialist
