Chit Chat Challenge
Research shows that having conversations with our kids helps to support the development of communication and social skills. Each month I will include a few ideas to use as conversation starters. The idea is to ask questions that continue a conversation, rather than produce a “yes” or “no” response.
This month’s Chit Chat Challenge:
  • If I talked to your teacher, what do you think they would say they love about you?
  • Who did you sit with at lunch?
Kindergartner News
Kindergarten ELA groups spent time “writing the room” on Valentine’s Day! They searched the room for words with consonant blends and recorded the words according to the vowel in each word.
First Grade News
First Graders in Mrs. Canestaro and Miss Beeman’s classroom celebrated the 100th Day of School by making 100 Day Trail Mix. Students brought in a variety of items and grouped them into 10 piles of 10 to add up to 100 items in all. Then we all enjoyed a tasty treat while we celebrated getting to 100 days and still “popping!”
Second Grade News
The second grade students have been writing letters. Some of the kids have even written letters trying to persuade Mrs. Kaup to let the cafeteria serve ice cream everyday. Even though Mrs. Kaup didn’t agree to their request, she did write the students back explaining her decision. The second grade students will continue to write letters. Some of them would like to convince their parents to get a pet, ask for more recess time, or go on more field trips. You may be receiving a letter very soon. Watch out! These children can make some good arguments!
Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive
Students collected over well 500 peanut and jelly containers for the Cortland Kiwanis Club! Thank you to all of the families that participated!
Merry Go-Round Theater
We LOVE when Merry-Go-Round Theater comes to perform at our school. “Huff and Puff: A Pig’s Tale” was a fun play featuring many memorable fairy tale characters from different stories. The children loved helping with different parts of the story, like cheering for the Billy Goats Gruff. More importantly, the children were able to practice good audience behavior. Some of our students even got to go on stage and be an actor! We look forward to having them perform for us again!
News from the Nurse
School physicals for grades K and 1 are required. If your child has already received a physical from their own doctor, please send a copy to the nurses office. We have a Nurse practitioner here to complete the required physicals that K and 1st graders need to have.
