Bars and Indoor Dining Closed In Yolo County
Dear friends,

As many of you have heard, Yolo County is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases, and as such, I have some tough news to report.

In the last two weeks, Yolo County's number of COVID-19 cases have almost doubled. The percentage of positive test results is increasing and hospitalizations are also increasing. Our public health experts report that if this continues, we will see a doubling of cases every two weeks, which would put us past 1,000 cases by August.

To help curb the spread, we've closed all bars and prohibited indoor dining in restaurants. While this is a tough step back, it's a needed step to ensure that residents from neighboring counties whose bars and indoor dining have been shut down by the state will not congregate here, and above all, to reduce the amount of severe illness and fatalities that inevitably follow these kinds of spikes.

Like you, I've found these last several months to be very difficult. I miss having friends and relatives over. I miss seeing businesses thrive and want them to survive.

The actions we take in the next month will help shape what life looks like six months from now. Let's work together to make it look as close to "normal" as we can. We are in this together and I know we can do it. I personally look forward to the day when I can sit with my father and give him a hug. I miss him desperately.

As we look toward the Fourth of July this weekend, I remind myself that we are celebrating " Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." At it's very core, that phrase starts with life, and we can't have liberty and happiness without it. Please protect yourselves and each other.

Wishing you a quiet and relaxing Fourth of July,

Jim Provenza
