Chamber Member Breakfast Happening Now
About the time this eLetter arrives in your inbox a group of 30+ business representatives are starting to meet at Whole Foods Roaring Fork for our new 2015 member breakfast. The purpose is to explore the benefits and opportunities gained from Basalt Chamber membership and ways that we can all work together to strengthen our business community.
"When consumers know that a small business is a member of their local chamber of commerce,
they are 44 percent more likely to think favorably of it and 63 percent more likely
to purchase goods or services from the company in the future."
~ 2012 research study by The Shapiro Group Inc &
Market Street Services 2012 research study
If you have any doubt about the value of your membership and the importance of small business representation and association, you might enjoy the excellent
article "Why Join Your Local Chamber of Commerce" in the American Business Magazine online.
Not only does your Chamber membership confer important intangible value, there are many day-to-day benefits that provide direct promotional advantage, could save you money and will enhance your community engagement. We've created this handy checklist. Even if you're unable to attend a breakfast, you can take a look to see how many benefits you're using and how to build on this advantage. A more comprehensive checklist can be downloaded
here.

This afternoon I'll be flying to Florida to visit my father and family. Missy will keep the office running until my return (see temporary hours below). We have lots to do in the months ahead with the Tree Farm Project review, Pan & Fork site development still under consideration, new businesses opening in Basalt, ribbon cuttings and getting everyone ready for the winter ski season.
See you in two weeks!

MORE VIDEOS AROUND BASALT
Up the Frying Pan Road: Ancient History
While driving down Hagarman Pass toward Basalt I stumbled upon these almost forgotten relics of the 1800's mining industry, says Barry Stevenson of Outside Adventure Media.
High in a mountain meadow, these ovens turned coal into coke for the mines in the region in the late 1800's. Today nature is reclaiming the eight over. Barry, a chamber member and Emmy Award-winning videographer, captured their ancient presence. Take a look and please share the video.

BASALT MAGAZINE ADVERTISERS & MEMBERS
Here's where your business is being seen!
The Basalt Community Guide & Business Directory
is
now available at more than 300 locations throughout the Roaring Fork Valley and at Colorado State Welcome Centers
.
More than 5,000 copies have already been distributed.
Here is a partial list of locations.
As a marketing professional of many years, I would sometimes hear clients and associates say: "That ad didn't do me any good." It's not hard to track ad returns when there's a specific call to action or coupon. The general ex
posure ads are often harder to follow.
I'm delighted to be hearing from members who businesses appear in the new Basalt magazine that they're already receiving direct and very positive results from their ads.
Even more, the feedback about the magazine has been glowing from locals and visitors. If you haven't seen it yet, take a look around. As one of our Chamber Ambassadors says: "It's everywhere."
Businesses: Please help us to keep the magazine within easy reach by re-stocking your supply. We've set up convenient locations where you can pick up magazines as needed.

The FISHING REPORT
While growing up in a large Catholic household, my father would work long hours often away from home, leaving my mother to raise two strong-headed boys and four stubborn girls. As I would find out later in life while raising my own daughter, being a parent is truly the most difficult and rewarding job in existence. Despite my father's inability and lack of time to enjoy the outdoors with me, he did introduce me to fly fishing and continued to nurture my passion of water, fish and wildlife, which is a gift that I am forever truly thankful for.
