CabooseNEWS FROM THE CABOOSE

Every year about this time a special event occurs around Basalt. Friends, neighbors, families and faces yet unknown come together to celebrate a beautiful sight -- the lighting into multiple shining colors of the majestic evergreen tree at the entrance to our historic downtown.

As in years past, downtown businesses and Willits Town Center have coordinated to present a wonderful pair of events for all to enjoy. The Holiday Tree Lighting ceremonies will be held two consecutive Fridays from 4 to 6pm: December 5th in Lions Park next to the Town Hall and Chamber Caboose, and December 12th in Willits Town Center's Triangle Park

Gathe
r around the bonfires eating chili and sipping hot cocoa and cider (spiced or spiked), while young boys and girls tell Santa all their dreams. Listen to the choir, the carolers and the lively tunes of Dwight Ferren. Then share a moment of delight as the trees are set aglow.

So much is happening this time of year, there's plenty of opportunity to combine your merry-making, shopping and dining. This Friday, just across the street from the holiday tree, the Basalt Emporium & Flying Circus offers musical entertainment and a bevy of gift options. Up Midland Avenue you'll find a hot cocoa gourmet bar, music and fire-pit at the Dusty Locker's Grand Opening event. Throughout Basalt, restaurants will be open for a full night of fine dining and music.

Coming up: What's happening next Friday at the Willits Town Center Holiday Tree Lighting.

Tis the season of giving and Lynne Mace, head of the Chamber's sign and "Creative Spaces" committees, has a treat in store for travelers along Highway 82. Keep an eye on the Basalt Avenue Park & Ride and see what good community collaboration can do. We'll tell you all about it in next week's newsletter.

The Chamber's downtown "Creative Spaces Project," now filling four storefronts as part of our downtown revitalization initiatives, will join its first Basalt ArtWalk
on December 12, along with openings and receptions at the Ann Korologos Gallery, Toklat Gallery and Wyly Annex. You can read about these events and more below.

Warm regards to all (still from Florida),
Robin

BAHWOULD YOU LIKE TO HOST
A CHAMBER BUSINESS AFTER HOURS
2015 Application Deadline: December 15

Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours events are excellent opportunities for local businesses to be center stage among your most important potential clients and referrers. It's also a great way to get to know your business neighbors, network and discover interesting collaborations.

If you'd like to be considered to host a 2015 Business After Hours, please fill out an application and email it to us by December 15. A selection committee will choose the locations and a schedule announced at 2014's final Business after Hours on December 18 at Alpine Bank Willits.

Every year we have more businesses interested in hosting than months available, so make your application stand out. A few tips: Think of something different and entertaining. Consider partnering up with a similar or neighbor  business. If you don't have a storefront, join up with a friend or colleague who does. Door prizes are always popular, even music.

2015 Applications are available
Deadline for Submission: Monday, December 15, 2014

The FISHING REPORT
At this time of the season, bright, warm winter days can produce excellent midge hatches on the Fryingpan, and floating the Roaring Fork can be a memorable way to enjoy a day. With snow throughout the valley, the rivers take on a whole different appearance. With a few good layers and the right flies, you just might forget that the ski season is beginning and that you are just downvalley from the legendary ski town of Aspen.

For the rest of the story read "On the Fly" provided weekly by the Taylor Creek Fly Shop in Basalt.
