Before reading on, please set your timer for 5:15 to remind yourself to head over to Aspen Rent-All for today's Chamber Business After Hours and Grand Opening party. See the details below.

Basalt has been buzzing with activity through the summer and event planner Marc Breslin has received kudos for a wildly successful Summer Music Series (with mural painting at the Wyly Center), a rocking Street Dance and lyrical Lemonade Day.

Motors on Midland returns August 29th and September is already filling up with fun events downtown and at Willits Town Center.

The Basalt Chamber's first Annual Celebrate the Season Raffle is already in full swing with 20+ prizes most valued at $100 and more. Every dollar contributed to the raffle brings four back to the Chamber for community programs via a matching grant so stop by the Caboose and pick up a few tickets. The odds of winning are high and the more you buy the better your chances. See below for details and check back as we're continually adding prizes.

We're busily issuing Chamber Super Discount Ski Vouchers and the benefits are better than ever. Pick up your voucher at the Caboose and please help us to spread the word. Introduce a new business to the benefits of joining the Basalt Chamber and we'll discount your renewal $25 for each new member.

Remember: Buy your Chamber Discount Season Pass
by September 11 for the best rates
and enjoy up to $590 off standard season passes.
Aspen Skiing Company's letter provides all the details.

What's Happening in Basalt?
  • The 40th Annual Colorado 500 Charity Invitational Dirt Bike Ride kicks off Saturday with a party and vintage bike show at Wally Dallenbach's Basalt Ranch. The Colorado 500 has raised nearly $2 million for Basalt and Colorado communities.
  • Basalt's increasingly-dynamic Wyly Art Center has hired a new director, Genna Moe, formerly audience services manager at the Wheeler Opera House. Many thanks to Kelly Alford who infused new vibrancy into the Center over the last few years.
  • A growing schism among attendees at Basalt Town Council meetings has led to discussion of placing the fate of the controversial riverfront Pan and Fork site in the hands of Town voters.Town Manager Mike Scanlon is researching issues around a ballot question and the Chamber of Commerce will poll members on their views over the next few months.
We invite members to write us to share your opinions on these and other topics.

The last few weeks have been a delight as summer tourists stop by the Chamber caboose for info, chat and glowing observations about our town. Sitting here at the four corners of Historic Downtown finishing up this week's newsletter, I hear the familiar sounds of favorite entertainers John Michel, Michael Jude and Suzzanne Paris traveling down the road from Heather's. It's a lovely night in Basalt.

Enjoy!

Update on RMI's new Innovation Center
Rocky Mountain Institute's new Innovation Center is making good progress toward end-of-year completion. Exterior materials and windows are being installed and site work has started. Two Rivers Rd construction is complete as is the new parking lot on the building's west side. Inside, drywall installation is done and the first coat of paint is up. Interior wood ceilings are being installed and trim work has begun.
