From Mansfield to the Baseball Major Leagues
Mansfield’s history leads us on a never ending trail of surprises. As we prepare to welcome our newest baseball team, The Destoyers, we are reminded of nine, yes nine, individuals who started out here in our small town and made it to the baseball major leagues.

History Center board member and sports journalist, Steve McCloskey, has uncovered stories about these local athletes and the places they went and the famous people they met, and even punched in the face. Yes, there’s a story there and it will surprise you.

On June 5 th at 7:30 PM at the Museum of Us (61 North Main Street) you will have your f irst chance to meet and greet the new Mansfield Destroyers baseball team. Bring the kids. Get autographs and photos taken with Mansfield’s newest baseball team and enjoy free Hot Dogs, Popcorn and Drinks.

Additionally, Steve will tell the stories of some of our outstanding baseball athletes that launched their careers right here.

The event is co-sponsored by The History Center and the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce. Turn out for our town.

Making the Most of Your DNA Test Results
July 14 1 PM to 5 PM

Nancy McCurdy started researching her family tree years ago. When DNA testing became available, she tested and discovered she understood the DNA results. She continued to learn as much about it as she could. Now she helps others to understand DNA, their results and how to use DNA test results. Her session will include a review of the types of DNA tests, current testing companies and privacy issues. There will be discussions about new technology, help aids for using your DNA results and new features available from the various DNA testing companies. Finally, she will use actual examples to explain how to use your DNA matches to add to your family tree and possibly break through some brick walls.
$15 dollar donation recommended for session.
