Take Me Out to the Ballgame
|
|
After a 99 day lockout the Boys of Summer are back to work as we prepare for another season of baseball, including our beloved Akron RubberDucks. The RubberDucks came on board this year as one of our newest Pre-Professional Internship Partners, which was perfect for Senior Brendan Walsh.
Since Brendan can remember, he has always wanted a career in baseball, and the experience he is receiving in Akron is invaluable. It will set him apart from others moving forward. "Brendan's experience is vital," says Dave Burke, VP of Sales and Operations. "Right now, in my eyes, he has a 3-4 year head start on anyone else getting into the sports industry. Starting in high school is amazing. He is going to have so much more knowledge than any other person who is just starting in baseball."
The beauty of working in minor league baseballi is you experience so many different aspects of the game and an organization. "The internship is huge because you see so many different departments," said Burke. "It's a great way to know the industry, to move up, and undertsand that this is really what I want to do."
"I'm so lucky to be here," added Brendan. "I'm doing more than what I came here for and I love it. It has increased my love for baseball."
Brendan has done so well for the organization, the RubberDucks have already hired him for the summer! "Brendan is doing a fantastic job," siad Burke. "He has a great head on his shoulders and is really investing in his future." Brendan smiles when asked about his time with the RubberDucks. "I feel at home. The people here are so good to me, they are so welcoming. It's a great opportunity."
