BATES BLAST

Thank you King & Pingpank Families for hosting the 1st and 2nd Grade Class Socials! Such fun nights, and a great way to close our September! 4th Grade Families, let's keep the tradition going. We are still looking for host(s) for the 4th grade. Find a friend to co-host, keep it simple in a driveway or patio, and email BatesPTOevents@gmail.com.

Pumpkin Fair

6 days to go! Here’s how you can rally your tribe to support our amazing Co-Chairs Janet Griffin and Kate Champion. We can’t thank them (& their team of rockstars) enough for all of their hard work!

  • Sign up to Volunteer - message those group chats to encourage everyone to sign up for a shift. Grab a friend and help staff a section so we can ensure each area is open. There are volunteer opportunities before, during and after the fair. If your family has a conflict please email Janet to see how you could help outside of the fair hours. There’s lots to do and many hands make it possible!
  • Please read our special Pumpkin Fair section below to see how else you can participate in our Auction, Raffle, Sweet Treats, and more!

School Committee Zoom Conversation with Bates Families

On Thursday 9/26 we had a great morning Zoom with David Lussier, Toni Jolley, Sharon Gray, Linda Chow, and Niki Ofenloch. We are so appreciative that they heard parents' interest in additional ways to have interactive conversations with them, and offered us our own open and conversational zoom. Two of Niki’s children are elementary students at Hunnewell, so she’s especially tapped-in to the path many of us are walking. Parents who participated appreciated the Zoom format. They also voiced interest in personalized learning plans to meet kids where they are, and how to take them to the next level. What are you interested in most? What is working? What can we work together to improve? Join us at upcoming all-parent PTO meetings (next on 10/22), and future School Committee Zooms. Linda and Niki generously offered to meet again!

PUMPKIN FAIR 2024 - OCTOBER 5, 12-4PM

Volunteer Sign-Up

Pumpkin Fair (6 days away!)

Core memories unlocked. If you want to get involved -- supporting our Pumpkin Fair is one of the most impactful ways to help. Not only will Pumpkin Fair be one of your kids' lasting childhood memories from elementary school, but it is a huge fundraiser for our school! We really appreciate the families who already contributed in many of these areas. Use the information below like a check list. How many areas can you help?

Volunteer for a Shift

Sign up here. There are shifts before during and after the event. We need the support of every Bates Family to be able to open each section of the fair. If you can't make a specific shift, but want to help, please Email Janet.

Bake (or buy) Sweet Treats

Flyers went home in backpacks on Friday with details. Drop off goodies in the gym on Friday 10/4 from 8:15am-3pm.

  • Bake Sale - Stocked by your donations! Please make sure your homemade or store bought goodies are wrapped in small groupings (eg, 2 medium cookies in one bag) for "grab-and-go" convenience. There will be an allergy-free table, please label.
  • Cake Decorating Contest - Submit your child-decorated spooky cake creations by 3pm Friday. Cakes will be available for purchase during the fair.

Bid on our Auction

New this year, check out our amazing Auction items. Also great for relatives and grandparents who want to support from afar! More auction details below.

Kids Raffle

The Kids Raffle is always a huge hit, largely thanks to donations from Bates Families. Please consider donating a new toy or gift card that your child would like to win. Sporting items, Lego sets, Emoji Pillows, Squishies, and games are all great ideas. Purchase items yourself and drop-off in the designated bin at Megan Keefe's house (13 Cavanaugh Rd), or purchase from the Bates Pumpkin Fair Raffle Wish List on Amazon and items you buy will be sent directly to Megan’s house.

Another option - make a monetary donation via Venmo (@Lindsey-McCullough-4) or send a check in an envelope marked "Pumpkin Fair - Kids’ Raffle" to the school, and we will use it toward more great prizes for the raffle. The Kids Raffle is such a fun part of the fair -- please help make it a big success!

Donate

Be a Monster Sponsor Family, or help match us with a Corporate Sponsor (perhaps your own company). A big thank you to the 50 families who donated below! We have about 200 families at Bates. If this is one way you can contribute, we would love to grow the Monster Sponsor Wall of Fame this week!

BE A MONSTER FAMILY

A Monster Sponsorship is a $100 donation (we happily accept more!) and is reserved for Bates families. By becoming a Monster Sponsor, you help cover key costs of the fair, including the pumpkin patch, haunted house, rides, and more.

New Initiative to Encourage No-Cost Home Energy Assessments

  • Door-to-door canvassing begins soon.
  • Look for HomeWorks Energy in your neighborhood.

A new Town of Wellesley collaboration with HomeWorks Energy, a Mass Save® partner, can lower energy use and carbon emissions while improving home comfort for Wellesley residents who are gas customers of National Grid.

Beginning in early October, HomeWorks Energy representatives will visit Wellesley neighborhoods to invite residents to schedule a no-cost home energy assessment. Representatives wear bright yellow vests displaying Town of Wellesley and HomeWorks Energy logos.

National Grid customers can schedule a home energy assessment now by calling HomeWorks at 781-305-3319 or visit HWE.Works/Wellesley.

Residents who heat with oil, propane, and/or electric resistance, should call the Center for EcoTechnology at 888-577-8448 or schedule an assessment with the Wellesley Municipal Light Plant at www.wellesleyma.gov/EnergyAuditForm.

To learn more, read the Home Energy Assessments news release read the Home Energy Assessments news release here.
