HCSO Newsletter #53 | Battling Human Trafficking
Message from Sheriff Ed Gonzalez:

Human trafficking is a national crisis that plagues communities across the country. This horrific crime affects all people, including young adults and children. This week, we announced the results of a major human trafficking initiative that put dozens of possible human trafficking victims on a path toward freedom. Working with our law enforcement and community partners, we do everything possible ensure these victims get the help they need to turn their lives around and make positive contributions to our neighborhoods. Thank you to our hard-working deputies, investigators, and law enforcement partners for their efforts in a successful mission to battle this affliction on our county. Below, you can watch the press conference announcing the results, and watch a behind-the-scenes look of this operation.

Patrol Major Mike Lee stopped by to meet with lateral deputies and newly hired detention officers while they were in our Crisis Intervention Team class at the academy. I’m eager for all of you young deputies and detention officer to begin their careers with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and utilize the fantastic training you receive at our academy. Best of luck to all of you.

This week’s video features our air support unit and showcases their instrumental work here at the Sheriff’s Office. Their team is critical to our operations during day-to-day patrol operations and in major events such as last year’s ITC chemical plant fire. Click the video to learn more about the air support unit.

To all of my teammates, your dedication to our agency and the community we serve never fails to inspire me. I will continue to lead from the front and put in the work that I expect form you. God bless all of you, and God bless the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
HCSO in the News
"The five-day operation dubbed “Operation Kick-off 2020” took place last month. On Tuesday, HCSO announced the operation resulted in 32 arrests. Most were charged with prostitution and trafficking-related offenses."
""It’s made it more of a challenge for us as law enforcement, to address that, and it’s given them another avenue to engage in that kind of behavior,” Brad Rudolph, Harris County Sheriff’s Office’s Threat Management Unit, said."
