Greetings -
Welcome to your more-or-less monthly newsletter listing the bluegrass and old time music events in our region -- and providing information about Bluegrass Signal, the weekly radio program on KALW (Sat., 4-5:30 pm, 91.7 FM) and syndicated via Bluegrass Country.
Thanks for sending me (via bgsignal@comcast.net) additions and corrections regarding upcoming bluegrass and old time music events. Please visit the Bluegrass Signal web site for constantly-updated event listings and radio show playlists, as well as a number of items and articles of interest to bluegrass and old time music fans.
One of two special editions of Bluegrass Signal is coming up on Dec. 13th. It's your chance to hear the U.S. debut of John Reischman & the Jaybirds' new album, The Salish Sea -- and get one for your own when you support KALW. You'll also have the chance to acquire tickets for the CD release celebration at The Freight in late February, a show which also includes a set showcasing Kathy Kallick with The Jaybirds. Scroll down to the RADIO SHOWS portion of the newsletter more more info.
But first -- tomorrow! -- it's the bi-annual On Air Folk Festival from 2-7 pm with a variety of Bay Area and visiting musicians performing live in the KALW studio during Folk Music & Beyond, Bluegrass Signal, and A Patchwork Quilt. Participants during the Bluegrass Signal portion of the festivities are listed and pictured above; they'll be joined by:
- 2 pm: Breabach (band from Scotland)
- 2:50 pm: interview with Ismay regarding her documentary film about Lucinda Williams
- 3:15 pm Peppino D’Agostino (finger-style guitarist from Italy)
- 5:30 pm: David Gans (Bay Area singer/songwriter/guitarist — and radio producer, author, historian, educator, and Deadhead Extraordinaire)
- 6 pm: Hali Hammer & Randy Berge (Bay Area singer-guitarists
- 6:30 pm: Maggie Forti (Bay Area singer/songwriter/guitarist)
I hope you can tune in -- and are otherwise able to hear and/or play some music soon -
