Advocacy Action Alert!

We need collective action to ensure the voice of Chamber members is heard by policymakers in Lansing and at home in Bay County. We need your help in three key areas:

1. Request Special Election for our 35th State Senate District – The seat has been empty since January 3. Join us in urging swift action from the Governor’s office to ensure we have a voice in Lansing. Call or email Governor Whitmer and request she set the special election immediately.

2.  Bridge Tolls  – We will continue advocacy to protect businesses and residents from unanticipated cost increases. The Chamber is in direct communication with Bay City Bridge Partners to share our concerns. Join the Bay Area Chamber Coalition. Send your logo and your concerns so our collective voice is heard. We are stronger together!

3.  Developing a Comprehensive Vision for Bay County’s Future – We will be working on the next iteration of a county-wide roadmap for economic growth, population retention, and community planning leading into 2050. We need your input! If you are interested in participating in this, join our list for future updates!

LBC- Agriculture Session

Our January Leadership Bay County session focused on agriculture!

The class began the day learning about the history, operations, and politics of sugar from Michigan Sugar Company. This set the stage for understanding the sweet success of Michigan Sugar.

Next, students headed downstairs to Michigan Cream & Sugar, where they explored the science of ice cream and the purpose behind the business. And of course, they couldn't leave without samples!

Back upstairs at Michigan Sugar, Michael Goad, President and CEO of Dow Credit Union, spoke on career growth and leadership.

The class then learned about the importance of proper landscaping techniques from Bay Landscaping to help plants and our environment thrive naturally—a critical lesson for sustainable growth. L & M Scheuerlein Inc. discussed Michigan's farming landscape and the crops that thrive in our state.

Finally, students wrapped up the day with a visit to Williams Cheese, where they toured the facility, learned about their cheese-making process, and enjoyed some cheesy snacks.

Thank you to all the businesses and locations that worked with the class!
