Sustainability In Whitefish Bay:
Sing, Fly, Soar – Like a Bird! Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day 2021: The Whitefish Bay Garden Club in partnership with the Village of Whitefish Bay has maintained the Village’s designation as a Bird City for 10 years. During Bay Day/Week, you too can learn how you can help support migratory birds. World Migratory Bird Day seeks to raise awareness about complicated issues that hinder migratory birds’ bi-annual journeys. This year’s theme “Sing, Fly, Soar – Like a Bird” challenges us to increase our knowledge of what makes each species unique to hopefully deepen our love for these birds and help conserve their species and habitats!
Here are seven simple ways to help birds:
  • Keep cats indoors
  • Make windows visible to birds
  • Plant native plants
  • Reduce plastic use
  • Buy bird-friendly products
  • Clean bird feeders
  • Eliminate pesticides in your yard
May 1 - Watch for our little white truck following the band around the Village to learn more — and pick up a free milkweed sample while supplies last.

Curby’s Compost: Curby’s Compost Service is a curbside compost pickup service. When you sign up, you will receive a container and compostable bag to use throughout the week. During the week, add compostable items to the container (click here for a full list of what you can/can’t compost) and then simply bring your container to the curb for pickup! Curby’s will replace your filled container with a clean container and a new compostable bag. Pickup is every Tuesday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Members are billed on a monthly basis; click here for rates.

Members also receive a credit good toward one 25-pound container of Dirty Dirt’s Artisan Blend Organic Soil every six months. New members receive 25% off their first month. Contact Curby’s Compost at 414-445-4345 or visit www.curbyscompost.com.

Girl Scout Silver Award Project: Check out this project by Girl Scout Troop 6267, which addresses the issue of water pollution with garbage contaminants in Milwaukee county. Troop 6267 created a video raising awareness about this issue and informing people on how to help with the Marine Debris Tracker app. Check the video out here!
The app is used to document data about trash in waterways across the world. This data is sent to scientists who then find ways to stop water pollution. This project benefits the entire region. Please watch their video to learn more!
