Welcome to our Newest Commissioners!
|
|
|
We are pleased to introduce two of our newest Commissioners, Thomas Mandli and Mary Ellen Dobbins. Thomas Mandli is a Marinette County Board appointment to the Commission and Mary Ellen Dobbins is a Kewaunee County Commissioner nominated by the Kewaunee County Board and appointed by the Governor.
Thomas Mandli is a retired teacher after 31 years of teaching Technology Education in Marinette. He represents District 17 on the Marinette County Board, and is a member of the County's Development Committee, which encompasses agriculture, economic development and tourism, UW-Extension, and Land Conservation.
Mary Ellen Dobbins is a lifelong resident of Wisconsin with a BA Degree from St. Norbert College, and a Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. After 35 years of teaching, she retired in 2011. In April 2016, Mary Ellen was elected to the Kewaunee County Board as Supervisor for District 12, the West Kewaunee area. Mary Ellen is Chairperson of the Kewaunee County Public Health & Veterans Committee. She is also on the Executive, Human Services, and University of Wisconsin Extension committees. Mary Ellen represents Kewaunee County on the Aging and Disability Resource Center of the Lakeshore (ADRC) Board and is Secretary of the Violence Intervention Project (VIP) Board.

Hazard Mitigation Planning Training

 Staff had the opportunity to attend hazard mitigation training on July 16. Bay-Lake RPC is currently contracting with Manitowoc, Marinette, Oconto, and Sheboygan counties to create their 5-year hazard mitigation plan updates. Understanding why we mitigate is a key component. Disasters are unpredictable and costly, but by preparing in advance, communities increase the speed of response, recovery, and can remediate a lot of damage. Green Infrastructure Code Audits
|

|
Bay-Lake RPC has completed a code audit for the City of Sheboygan, and is currently completing a code audit for Manitowoc County in collaboration with Sea Grant and Fund for Lake Michigan. The audit is designed to address code barriers which hinder or restrict green infrastructure techniques in communities. The project also gives recommendations for potential code changes in the future.

Devil's River State Trail Master Plan
|
|
|
The Devil's River State Trail is a 14 mile shared use trail that extends from Brown County to Manitowoc County along a former rail corridor. Bay-Lake RPC staff has been working with Manitowoc County planning staff to create a guiding document for future development opportunities, trail use, and maintenance for the existing and potential expansion locations of the trail. Disaster Recovery Assistance
DOA has disaster recovery assistance available to local units of government for housing rehabilitation, public facility/infrastructure repair, and business assistance utilizing Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.

Natural Resource Conservation Service Program
The Natural Resource Conservation Service is offering $200 million in emergency funding to restore flood-prone lands. For details about this program, click here.
Disaster Recovery Microloan Program
Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission (BLRPC) has microloan funding available, up to $20,000 and at 0% interest for businesses impacted by disasters such as flooding, storms, or other events, in the BLRPC region. 2019 treatment of various invasive species is well underway in Kewaunee County! During early July, Wild Parsnip was treated at over 30 sites across the county. Wildlife & Wetland Solutions, the contractor hired to treat the invasive plants,
will be back in the county at the end of August and beginning of September to treat Phragmites and Japanese Knotweed. If you are a landowner who is seeking treatment for either of these invasive species found on your property, please follow the
