2023 Technical Assistance Grants Now Open
|
|
We are once again offering our Technical Assistance Grant Program to our member communities. This program offers limited free professional planning assistance on small-scale plans or projects. Eligible projects must fit within the Commission’s work program and fall under the categories of community planning, economic development, mapping/visualization, environmental, or transportation planning.
Up to three projects from throughout the Bay-Lake region will be selected to be carried out by Commission staff at no cost. Each project will be limited to a maximum of 40 hours of staff time. Larger projects are also eligible to get a project underway. All awarded technical assistance hours must be used in 2023.

Over the past few months, the Commission completed comprehensive plan updates for the City of Plymouth in Sheboygan County and the City of Two Rivers in Manitowoc County. These comprehensive plans serve as a long-range guide for the growth and development of these communities for the next 20 years. During the November School Board meeting, the Luxemburg-Casco School District School Board approved the Luxemburg-Casco School District Safe Routes to School Action Plan. The final approved document is a result of an 18-month planning effort in which the Commission assisted the School District, and will act as a guide to site specific improvements and Safe Routes to School programming efforts for the School District and local communities for years to come. Updating the long-range transportation plan for the metropolitan planning area continues to be a major task in 2022. Commission staff continued work on draft Chapters 6 (Transportation and Land Use), 7 (Recommended Transportation Plan) and 9 (Financial Plan) of the Year 2050 SATP in November. The Sheboygan MPO Technical and Policy Advisory Committees completed their review of draft Chapter 5 (Existing Condition of the Transportation Network) of the Year 2050 SATP at their special joint meeting in November.
Commission staff also assisted Shoreline Metro in finalizing its Public Transit Agency Safety Plan (PTASP) and targets in November. Shoreline Metro’s safety committee recommended approval of the PTASP Update in mid-November, and the Sheboygan Transit Commission approved the PTASP Update for Shoreline Metro in late November. Approval of the PTASP Update and targets for the MPO will take place in December.
Commission staff recently submitted a proposal to Sheboygan County to conduct a transportation planning/feasibility study for the county. This study was proposed by the county’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) transportation taskforce earlier in 2022.
