County Board Presentations
Commission staff gave presentations to county boards of member counties during the months of May and June. The Commissioners and staff want to thank these six counties and the local units of government for their support over the past 42 years. Together, we have accomplished a lot during the past four decades, and we look forward to being a strong partner for another four decades.
Please contact the Commission, if you would like a staff member to present to your organization, committee, or association regarding all of the services we have to offer, or local planning and development projects.

WisDOT USH 141 Project Open House
The USH 141 Corridor (from USH 41 to STH 64) was upgraded to a 4-lane freeway a few years ago. Since that expansion, WisDOT staff, along with consultants from EMCS, will be seeking input on how to further improve that corridor in the areas of traffic, operations, and safety. An important step in preparing a long-term vision for that corridor is to hold meetings designed to gather input from those the live near USH 141 and use that important highway on a regular basis.
The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2014, from 5:00 pm. to 7:00 pm. in the Lena Public School cafeteria in Lena. For more information, please contact Natasha Gwidt with WisDOT by email or phone at (920) 492-4125.

EPA Grant Writing Workshop
The EPA will host a July 22, 2014 workshop focused on helping community grant writers produce successful proposals for the EPA Assessment, Clean-Up and Revolving Loan Fund (ARC) grants. Presenters from DNR's Remediation & Redevelopment Program, EPA Region 5, and Kansas State University's Technical Assistance for Brownfields Communities (TAB) program will discuss the basics of the ARC grants, eligibility requirements, the application process and proposal writing tips and resources. Participants will review real examples and will be given ample opportunity to ask questions. Even if you are not writing a proposal this year, the workshop can be a valuable planning tool for local governments interested in brownfields redevelopment.
There is no cost for the workshop, but registration is required. Space is limited to 30 people. A webinar option is also available. For more information, please visit the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website.

HUD Announces Planning Grant
The Choice Neighborhoods program supports locally driven strategies to address struggling neighborhoods with distressed public or HUD-assisted housing through a comprehensive approach to neighborhood transformation. Local leaders, residents, and stakeholders, such as public housing authorities, cities, schools, police, business owners, nonprofits, and private developers, come together to create and implement a plan that transforms distressed HUD housing and addresses the challenges in the surrounding neighborhood. The program is designed to catalyze critical improvements in neighborhood assets, including vacant property, housing, services and schools. For more information, please visit HUD's website. |
