Updating the long-range transportation plan for the metropolitan planning area continues to be a major task in 2022. Commission staff continued to work on draft Chapter 5 (Existing Condition of the Transportation Network) and started work on draft Chapter 6 (Transportation and Land Use) of the Year 2050 SATP in June.
The Commission approved minor amendments to the Sheboygan Metropolitan Planning Area Transportation Improvement Program (TIP): Calendar Years 2022 – 2025 at its meeting on June 10th. Most of the amendments involved Table 4 (Elderly and Disabled Transportation Capital Projects), with one amendment involving Table 6 (Street and Highway Improvement Projects). A financial plan (fiscal constraint demonstration) accompanied these amendments. The amendments have been submitted to WisDOT and USDOT, and have been posted to the MPO webpage.
Commission staff evaluated candidate projects for Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) Urban funding under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) for the federal fiscal years 2023 – 2026 cycle using the project prioritization policy for that program in late June.
Commission staff conducted interviews of candidates for the transportation planner position in June.
Commission staff continue to plan for the 2022 MPO/RPC/WisDOT/USDOT transportation planning conference that will be held at Blue Harbor Resort and Conference Center in Sheboygan October 10th – 12th.
Commission staff started work on the Transit Asset Management (TAM) plan and targets for Shoreline Metro in late June.
Commission staff started work on setting Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) targets for the Sheboygan metropolitan planning area in late June. This included analysis of crashes involving fatalities and serious injuries for 2021, including fatality and serious injury crashes involving non-motorized modes of transportation. Fatalities in 2020 were also analyzed using the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
In June, Commission staff participated in a meeting of the WisDOT Freight Advisory Committee, and participated in a meeting with a bicycle transportation consultant. In addition, Commission staff continued to advise area local governments as they apply for special local program funding administered by WisDOT under the BIL.
