Funding Available to Plant Trees
Wisconsin Regional Planning Commissions and the DNR Announce a New Funding Opportunity to Help Communities Mitigate the Impacts of EAB
|
|
In partnership with the Wisconsin DNR, East Central Wisconsin RPC, Northwest Wisconsin RPC, and Southeastern Wisconsin RPC, the Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission is excited to announce a new funding opportunity aimed at helping communities mitigate the impacts of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) and prepare them for EAB invasion by diversifying their urban and community forests.
The funding will help municipalities, counties, and tribes to
plant non-host trees. Four to 80 projects, ranging from $1,000 to $20,000, are expected to be funded under this program.
Eligible communities include those that are within the Wisconsin Great Lakes Basin and within an EAB quarantined county.
The funding is made available through a FY2015 U.S. Forest Service Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GRLI) grant received by the Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission earlier this year.

The Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission is excited to offer a new sign inventory mapping project option for our communities. Sign inventory mapping is an important component of the MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices), allowing your community to be organized during your inventory or update process. Contact the Commission's GIS Department if your community is in need of a full inventory, an update to the inventory, or a streamlined online mapping option.
These are just a few of the many custom mapping projects in which the Commission can assist. Other map examples would include location maps for grant applications, large air photo displays, a series of maps for public informational meetings, GIS analysis, and much more. The Commission's GIS Department will be happy to work with you to meet any of your mapping needs.

Commission staff hosted a mid-year review meeting regarding the
2016 Sheboygan Metropolitan Planning Area Transportation Planning Work Program in Sheboygan on June 2nd. Staff from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Wisconsin Division and from the WisDOT Bureau of Planning and Economic Development and Northeast Region were in attendance at this meeting. A tour focusing on development and transportation issues in the area followed this meeting.
The Commission approved two minor amendments to the
2016 - 2019 Sheboygan Metropolitan Planning Area Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) at a meeting of the full Commission on June 10th. This followed recommendation of approval by the Sheboygan MPO Technical and Policy Advisory Committees at their joint meeting on May 26th. The minor amendments include: (1) small increases in the cost of the State Highway 42/Calumet Drive reconstruction project from Main Avenue to North 26th Street; and (2) completion of the Interstate Highway 43 sequencing and prioritization study from the Ozaukee County line to Interstate Highway 41 in Brown County in one year (previously, this project was to be completed in two years). The amendments will be transmitted to pertinent state and federal agency staff in the near future.
Other areas that MPO staff has been involved with in recent weeks include: participation in a stakeholder meeting regarding the State Highway 23 Freeway Designation and Corridor Preservation Study; meeting with the Director of Shoreline Metro regarding various transit issues; participation in a recent meeting of the Sheboygan Transit Commission; participation in a webinar regarding the USDOT's new metropolitan transportation planning rules; assisting Shoreline Metro and the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) on employment transportation issues; preparing for a meeting to develop the
Coordinated Public Transit - Human Services Transportation Plan for Sheboygan County; and developing web mapping of projects in the
2016 - 2019 TIP (as amended).
