Marinette County Housing Study
|
|
The Marinette County Housing Study is complete and
will soon be available on our
website!
The study identifies the top housing needs and trends, and makes recommendations for the selected communities in Marinette County. Many rural communities in Marinette County are challenged by a limited selection of housing and inadequate housing quality. Marinette County has a number of second-home owners and retirees who purchase seasonal housing units, these are typically left vacant at some period - often restricting housing options for local working families. The federal safety net provides options for rural residents who struggle to meet the current housing costs; however, these funds tend to fall short of fully meeting resident's needs. Policymakers, community leaders, developers, and builders are encouraged to consider innovative ways to improve and leverage the existing housing stock in order to expand affordable, and high quality apartments and single-family homes for local working families.
For more information on this study, please contact Madison Smith.

Minor amendments to the Sheboygan Metropolitan Planning Area Transportation Improvement Program (TIP): Calendar Years 2018 - 2021 were approved by the Commission in early June, after being recommended for approval by the Sheboygan MPO Technical and Policy Committees. These minor amendments involved addition of a WETAP carpool project funded by the CMAQ program, and cost share adjustments to three street and highway projects in the TIP.
Progress continues on the Update to the Year 2045 Sheboygan Area Transportation Plan (SATP). The Sheboygan MPO Technical and Policy Advisory Committees reviewed several draft chapters at their joint meeting in late May. Commission staff continues to prepare draft Chapter 5 (Existing Condition of the Transportation Network).

The Association of Wisconsin Regional Planning Commissions (AWRPC) held the first bi-annual summit of Wisconsin's regional planning commissions in Wisconsin Rapids on June 14, 2018. The summit provided an opportunity for RPC staff and Commissioners to learn and network. The theme of the summit was "
Go Regional or Go Home: Why Counties Need to Play Together to Survive."
The Commissioner focused topics included a Q&A on strategies for success, strategic planning for RPCs, and revenue generation and project funding streams. The staff-focused topics included planning models for community quality of life and resiliency, multi-jurisdictional planning in southeast Wisconsin, and regional approaches to planning for health.
The Bay-Lake RPC staff found the summit very worthwhile and look forward to the next summit in 2020.
