GLRI Phragmites Management
The 2017 treatment season for Phragmites will get underway in early fall. Before the 2017 treatments begin, the Bay-Lake RPC will be working with its partners to develop a treatment plan. In 2016, 970 acres of Phragmites were treated, and 550 acres were mowed throughout the project area. Remaining funding will enable the retreatment of about 590 acres. Field surveys this summer, and an aerial survey in August, will be used to determine the effectiveness of the 2016 treatments, estimate the number of acres that can be retreated, and establish a treatment plan for 2017. For more information, visit the website or contact Angela Kowalzek-Adrians.

Interns must be currently enrolled at a college or university, and must be able to commit to working during the months of June, July, and into August. The position application period will close May 26, 2017. More information is available on our

Sheboygan Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)
The Commission approved minor amendments to the street and highway component of the 2017 - 2020 Sheboygan Metropolitan Planning Area Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) at a meeting of its Executive Committee in late April. The amendments were transmitted to pertinent state and federal agencies in early May, and WisDOT approved the amendments in a letter dated May 11, 2017. The amendments can be found on the Bay-Lake RPC website.
Commission staff continues to prepare an update to the Commission's Title VI Civil Rights Program. This program will cover both the Regional Transportation and Sheboygan MPO planning programs. This update is completed every three years.
Commission staff has been working with Shoreline Metro on establishing transit asset management (TAM)/state of good repair (SGR) performance targets for the transit operation. These targets are required by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) of transit operators and MPOs under recent Federal surface transportation legislation (MAP-21 and the FAST Act). The targets will be presented to the Sheboygan Transit Commission and to the Sheboygan MPO advisory committees at their respective meetings in May, as well as to the Commission at its June meeting.
Finally, Commission staff has been working on the issue of highway safety performance targets for the Sheboygan metropolitan planning area. MPOs have a choice of supporting the state's targets or establishing their own targets, and a combination of both state and MPO targets is also allowed. Commission staff are studying this issue because WisDOT will set its statewide targets in August, and the MPO will have until February 2018 to determine whether to support WisDOT's targets or to set its own targets (or a combination thereof).
