San Mateo and Santa Clara GOP Endorse Gus Mattammal for AD23

The San Mateo County Republican Party and Santa Clara County Republican Party have both endorsed entrepreneur and council member Gus Mattammal for state Assembly in District 23. Mattammal’s strong and early start in the campaign prompted the endorsement votes in each committee, prior to the December filing deadline.

Mattammal wants to fix what's broken in Sacramento and reverse the decline of our state. He says, "I love California. It's been good to me. It breaks my heart to see it going in such a bad direction." One of his key themes is that the legislature has made it very hard to get things done. An example he gives is that the voters approved $2.7 billion for additional water storage in 2014. Yet because of problems getting permits, the Sites Reservoir won’t start construction until 2025. . . . read more

Assemblyman Bill Essayli Champions Parental Rights in Bay Area Visit

Republican Assemblyman Bill Essayli may be the person California Democrats fear most. Essayli recently visited the Bay Area to address SPARC, the Silicon Valley chapter of the California Congress of Republicans. There Essayli described how Democrats in the California Legislature refused to schedule a hearing on AB 1314, his proposal to write parental rights into the California Education Code.

Undeterred, Essayli focused on building a statewide coalition to advocate for parental rights. He wrote a model school board policy that could be adopted locally, based on his state legislative proposal. A version of that policy has now been adopted by seven California school boards. The model policy requires school districts to notify parents when a student requests to be identified or treated as a gender other than the student’s biological sex or gender as listed on the student’s birth certificate or other official records. . . . read more
