Why I'm a Member
There are many reasons I choose to be a long-time member of the LITDA. To name a few: training, networking, and gleaning critical information. Each of these are worth the annual dues of $200. However, I would like to highlight a different one. The cliché, “you can’t fight city hall” is universally applied to all areas of government and the bigger the government entity, the more relevant the statement. This cliché has lived on because it is often so true.

With the strength of our members, joined with the professionalism of the Tatman Group, LITDA proves again & again that done the right way, you can work with government at all levels and improve our industry in ways that would be virtually impossible on our own. The work done by these professionals often help independent tire dealers in Louisiana cross the line from failure to success.

Join our group, make your voice heard, make our organization stronger than ever, and take advantage of the many resources available to you as a member of the LITDA.

Message from the President
What a year for LITDA! We had a great Annual Convention in April at the Royal Sonesta in New Orleans. Thank you to all of our sponsors, vendors, speakers & attendees for supporting this fantastic event.

With your support of the organization and of our Scholarship Tournaments, we were able to award three $2,000 scholarships to some deserving students. We hope you'll come out next week to support our 6th Annual Bowling & Golf Tournament. It is a fun, meaningful event that we all look forward to each year. The proceeds from these tournaments support our Scholarship Program.

We also launched a new website that brings your LITDA membership benefits to your fingertips. Have you checked it out yet? You can register for events, access your invoices/receipts, join a committee, find your fellow members, and more! See what else you can do here: litda.org/newsite.

In November, we will be asking you to renew your LITDA dues. I encourage you to renew your membership with LITDA. We are the only voice for independent tire dealers in Louisiana, and we want YOU on our team. Need a reason to renew or join? Call your board member! We have 16 leaders who work tirelessly throughout the year to bring value to your membership. Check them out here: litda.org/leadership. Don't know one personally? Call the LITDA office. Our staff will be happy to connect you with your local representative.

If you need anything, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for supporting LITDA!

They Said It!
Don't take it from us - hear it from them! Here's what one of our partners has to say about LITDA!
Having the opportunity to be a vendor partner with LITDA has proven to be highly valuable for our organization.

Participating in the LITDA events and annual convention has allowed us to build relationships and begin partnerships with LITDA members to help them grow their business.

We look forward to continuing our vendor partnership with LITDA and building relationships with the members for years to come.

Ask the Tire Guy
Why is Tire Pressure Important?
Proper air pressure is the most important key to maximizing tire performance and life. Improper air pressure in tires can lead to a multitude of problems - from uneven and accelerated wear, to structural damage, tire failure, and even poor gas mileage.

This tire guy recommends checking tire inflation monthly, or before a long trip. Tires should be inflated to the vehicle manufacturers recommendations printed on the vehicle door placard, or in the vehicles owner's manual.

Halloween Can Be Scary for Adults Too!
Mention Halloween and what comes to mind? Candy, costumes, and decorations, of course! How about vandalism? It’s probably not the first thing most people think of, but it certainly happens, and, maybe not so surprisingly, quite often on Halloween.

So what can you do to prevent your pumpkin from getting smashed or your car egged? Opinions vary on the effectiveness of certain anti-vandalism tactics, but some may be valuable deterrents. While none are guarantees that ghoulish vandals won’t strike, they may be worth a try.

  • It may be a chore, but bring in pumpkins and decorations each night. The fewer temptations for the neighborhood pumpkin smashers, the less chance for destruction.
  • On the big night, park your vehicle inside, or, if that’s not possible, park in a well lit location, with the doors locked, and valuables removed.
  • Remove the appeal for goblins to visit your property for reasons other than to load up on treats. Bring in outdoor toys and equipment (e.g., bikes, sporting goods) that could be tempting to someone wanting to “borrow” them.
  • Turn on outside porch and security lights, and several interior lights.
  • Be home and be visible. Vandals don’t want to be seen. Numerous adults who make their presence known are a good way to make vandals aware that someone’s watching.

Finally, telling your kids tales of your own youthful window-soaping or toilet-papering escapades essentially conveys to them that you approve of those kinds of activities. If you haven’t already shared those stories, don’t. If you have, it’s not too late to redirect their thinking. Let your kids know you disapprove of Halloween vandalism, and if they partake, there will be consequences.

We Defeated HB 856
Did you see our Final Legislative Report from the 2018 Regular Session? It details which bills we monitored and acted on. HB 856 by Rep. DeVillier of Eunice would have allowed processors to charge above & beyond the DEQ fee, an issue that is currently in litigation. LITDA testified against the bill, which did not move forward through the legislative process.
