Hello there!

Have you ever stood at a crossroads? Where comfort pulled one way, and courage the other?

Years ago, at preschool drop-off, I met a woman named Amy. My oldest son Jon Luke was four, my middle son Jayce was a toddler, and my daughter wasn’t even a twinkle in our eyes.

Amy invited me to a mom’s group - a place with food I didn’t have to make, childcare I didn’t have to provide, and women I didn’t know.

What she couldn’t have known was that I had been praying for deeper friendships. The iron sharpens iron kind of relationships. A place where I could share parenting challenges, marriage struggles, and work difficulties. I said yes and that has made all the difference.

Amy, her co-leader Christie, and the other women marked the beginning of deeper authenticity in my adult friendships. These women helped me become a better mom, wife, and woman of faith. It was awkward at first. Vulnerable. But worth it.

So I ask you:

  • Who are you walking past because you're afraid to say hello?
  • What invitation or prompt of the Holy Spirit have you quietly ignored because it felt uncomfortable or inconvenient?
  • What if that awkward moment was the start of a life-changing friendship?

Maybe you’ve been waiting for “the perfect group,” but the truth is, real women aren’t perfect. They’re just showing up with open hearts and messy lives.

Churches, support groups, Bible studies - most are filled with human beings doing their best, often while walking through their own stories and sometimes tragic circumstances. Churches do have care people on staff and leaders who want to help people get connected with those who have the bandwidth to help.

For the past 18 years I’ve needed and been involved in MomCo as an attendee, a steering leader, hospitality volunteer, speaker to area groups, and now a mentor to the steering team. I am a lifer because a mom’s group changed my life. It’s been 20 years since that day I met Amy at my son's preschool.

Today, on my second birthday without my husband Jon, guess who’s coming to stay with me for the long weekend? Amy and Christie. They’re here for me all these years later.

So if you’re standing at that fork in the road, "say yes." Take the road less traveled. Reach out. Join the group, Bible study, book club, or women's ministry. Make the awkward first move. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

The Holy Spirit is already going before you. He knows what you need. He’s placing people in your path to walk with you - if you’re willing to take that step. My prayer is that you find your people, your place, your peace.

And maybe one day you’ll look back and say: “That made all the difference."

In Him,

P.S. My husband's family took us to Italy for 10 days in September and it was amazing! Truly so thankful for that gift they gave us away from it all. I will post pictures soon on social media. See links below to connect there.
