Returning to the workplace? How to do it right.
Our tips on maintaining a safe and responsible workplace during COVID-19.
Have a plan in place for keeping the distance.

The only way to ensure that social distancing will be maintained at your workplace is to have a well thought out plan in place. Here are some general guidelines to get you started:
  • Remove excess chairs where possible to create additional distancing between employees.
  • Ensure that your workstation layout provides a minimum of 6' of space in between employees.
  • Reduce face-to-face positioning (orient to back-to-back or front-to-back separation).
  • Where possible, ensure a one-way clockwise traffic flow in the office.

In many cases, you may need to reconfigure your workplace layout. Our space planning team will provide you with a layout that ensures safe social distancing while maintaining maximum productivity and cost-effectiveness.

Keep it clean.

A safe office is a clean office. Some tips on keeping your office clean and safe on a regular basis:

  • Use fabric and finishes with antimicrobial properties or bleach-cleanable surfaces.
  • Provide hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes throughout the office, especially in high-traffic areas like reception, exists, stairs, restrooms, elevators etc.
  • Encourage employees to wipe their desks down at the beginning and end of each day as well as shared spaces at the beginning and end of use.

Use the tools available to you.

Just because you and your employees are returning back to the office, doesn't mean you need to forget about all the tools you acquired while working from home. Physical distancing can be maintained with the help of video communication technology that can be utilized to communicate with your co-workers at the workplace. This can be especially helpful for meetings with larger groups. Don't hesitate to use the technological tools available to you as your team makes the transition from home to the workplace.
Be flexible and open to creative solutions.
The pathway to workplace re-occupancy is not linear. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to transitioning from working at home to working at the office. This is the time for open-minded brainstorming and allowing different perspectives to inform your decisions as you guide yourself through this process. The best way to go about this, is by opening communication with your team. Allowing people to voice their questions and concerns will help you come up with solutions that work best with everybody's needs in mind.

Workplaces may be experiencing different concerns and opinions amongst employees regarding workplace safety. Meeting employees needs while maintaining productivity could mean implementing some untraditional and creative solutions. Don't be afraid to try something new! This might look like: alternating workdays (half the team coming in on certain days and the other half on others). Initially, you may not be able to solve all problems right away, this is why it's important to remain open to making changes as you gather new information and experience the results of a djustments made along the way. Stay open and stay optimistic!
