Be. Connected.
OCTOBER 2023
Be. Happy. at the office: Cultivating
the mood-boosting workplace.
Creating a workplace that promotes employee mental and emotional wellbeing is key to positive organizational culture, productivity and magic-making teamwork! Mental health is a vital factor when it comes to workplace design, and it's importance is rapidly increasing with millennials and Gen Z experiencing higher rates of depression and anxiety than previous generations. If we look at things from the perspective of the hierarchy of needs, human beings cannot perform at their best and be of service if they do not feel internal peace, balance and safety. Here are a few of our design & furniture tips that help to create mood-boosting workplaces,
Light regulates our rhythms. Studies show that exposure to daylight balances out our circadian rhythm and assists in boosting our mood. One way to expose team members to more daylight is to set workstations to be no more than twice the height of the window from the perimeter. Space division is one of the number one ways that light becomes obstructed in the office. If you're looking to divide your space, we highly recommend glass wall and door systems in place of standard, light-obstructing walls.

If your workspace allows it, creating an outdoor space is the perfect solution to more productivity, focus and wellness! Working outdoors has countless benefits--it improves mood, prevents fatigue, increases focus and keeps you productive for longer. Need help furnishing your outdoor workspace? Our team will be happy to find the right fit for you!
Socializing and bonding. Spaces that promote socializing help regulate our moods, reduce stress and increase a sense of calm overall. This is particularly why the classic cubicle model has become a symbol of depression & melancholy. While focused spaces are vital to workplace success, so are opportunities for collaboration - both for productivity and leisure. Socializing tends to increase the hormone oxytocin, which is a hormone that helps us feel connected, compassionate and empathetic.
Intentional, creative, inspiring. Integrating elements that inspire a sense of wonder, awe and curiosity is a great way to keep your team happy. Artistic and creative components communicate a sense of "luxury", they convey that we're not just focused on survival or productivity and there is room for what makes us human. These artistic elements help to break us away from the sterile environments that are typically associated with the dull office space. It doesn't have to be something huge or expensive, sometimes just implementing one beautiful print representing nature can help bring some aliveness to a space.
Talk about Color & Cohesion! Here’s a sneak peek of a project we are incredibly excited to reveal. Our team had the pleasure of furnishing this beautiful space for Girl Scouts of Northern California. We provided furniture for private offices, ancillary, conference rooms & more! The stunning Selfie Wall was beautifully designed by Doug Wittnebel. Thank you Girl Scouts for selecting Be. to furnish your new corporate office. Stay tuned for the professional photos!
