Oct. 31, 2018
Thank you to everyone who was a part of the 2018 Arts Empower Mega Conference ! I hope you left the event energized and prepared to change the lives of students.

Arts Empower San Diego is a collective impact initiative working to improve and support arts education in San Diego County. The use of the words "collective impact" is intentional because Arts Empower is not an event. It is not one person. It is not a committee. A collective impact is a group of people working together around a common goal to solve a specific problem. The Arts Empower goal is for every student in San Diego County to be engaged in a personally relevant, equitable, standards-based arts education. We know this is not currently happening for every student.

As our team at the San Diego County Office of Education works collectively with Arts Empower to address this challenge, I’d like to call on each and every one of you to focus on your ability to positively impact and change the lives of children each and every day. I’d like you to look at the opportunities for growth rather than seeing only the needs for resources and funding. The important work of educating children is not easy, so if you do not currently have a support network in place, please connect with SDCOE for help.

If you'd like to share stories of impact and success, bur aren't sure where to begin, please reach out to me. You can always share arts education success stories in your school, district, and community by tweeting and mentioning @P_CrooksVAPA and @ArtsEmpowerSD , and using the hashtag #theArtsMatter.
