Pastor's Message

  Dear Friend in Faith,

I am grateful for so much at our church. When I reflect on the heartache in the world, the recent disasters and shootings, I’m grateful we have a place to come and return to God, a place that gives us solace and helps us know God’s will for our lives and how we might respond. When I reflect on the increasing divide between the impoverished and the rest of us, I am so thankful for our ministry of relationship through The Open Table. Sunday, Jon Katov, the head of the now international Open Table movement, will talk with us about the amazing asset of the church: our social capital that makes all the difference in people’s lives whenever it is shared. Our social capital includes the relationships and ties we have to others that give us strength or assists us with a need (think of a neighbor who watches your house while you’re away or gives your child a tip on where to find a job).

Most of us live with fairly strong boundaries. Think, for instance, of the people you eat with and the people you don’t tend to eat with, as just one example. We don’t move too often across large social boundaries. Yet God likes us to do just that. In fact, our vision statement for our church says we share “Love that crosses all barriers and embraces all people.” God wants us to love like that...

The Open Table Transforms Lives
Ernie and Jon are more than just friends. They share a bond which grew out of their Open Table experience at PVUMC. This Sunday, you'll have a chance to meet Jon and some of the other participants in The Open Table program. Learn how you can be God's love in action.
