I hope spring has brought you a sense of renewal and joy. Together, let us all appreciate the wonderful sights, smells, and sounds that nature brings to us all this Earth Day.

We are proud to provide field trips to our local children once again, offer teaching opportunities to our undergraduate students in nature, and engage the community in science and exploration this spring season. The landscape is changing and soon will provide enhanced habitat, spots for nature appreciation, and gardens alive and bursting at the seams!

This Earth Day, please remember our human place in nature. Let us model behaviors that align with and prioritize the health and well-being of the entire planet. We welcome you to "Be Green Everyday" and explore along our trails, join in our citizen science initiatives, share seeds and plants, visit our Learning Center Barn exhibits and more!

Celebrate Earth Day with a BioBlitz at WPNR! Visit any time on Friday, April 22nd, from 10:00 am-3:00 pm, to learn how to use the iNaturalist app and program to identify and document the bugs, birds, trees, flowers, herps, and more found on our landscape. We will have hikes, exhibits, talks, and field studies throughout the day!

Chamomile

Our Earth Day Seed for You

Mid-April is a great time to start herbs for your summer garden. One of our all-time favorites is chamomile. Easy to grow, easy to dry, and easy to make a simple apple scented tea. A light sprinkling of the seeds on loose soil and kept moist until germination is all you need to start your own herb garden. When the season warms, you'll be gifted with lovely flowers irresistible to pollinators that can treat a myriad of symptoms from anxiety to digestive woes. This month we are re-launching our WPNR Little Free Seed + Book Library with a fresh new look. It will be stocked with some exciting new reading material as well as packs of German Chamomile harvested from our own gardens. We grow German and Roman chamomile in our gardens for different reasons but the distinction is interesting. Read on below for more!
