Shawnee Forward Heads to Washington, D.C.
Next week, I’ll be traveling to Washington, D.C. with the State Chamber of Oklahoma as part of their annual fly-in. This trip provides an important opportunity to meet directly with federal leaders, advocate for Oklahoma businesses, and ensure that our local priorities are part of the national conversation. From workforce and infrastructure needs to policies that shape our ability to grow, this visit is about making sure Shawnee and Pottawatomie County have a voice in the decisions that impact us every day.
It’s especially important that our community is represented at this level. Decisions made in Washington directly affect our businesses and community investments. By being present, we’re able to share Shawnee’s story, highlight the strengths of our region, and make sure rural and mid-sized communities aren’t overlooked in the larger policy landscape.
Shortly after this trip, Shawnee Forward will begin planning for next year’s legislative session by developing our legislative agenda. This agenda is built on input from you, our members. It will guide our advocacy efforts with state legislators. In the coming weeks, we’ll send out a survey to capture your feedback, but please always know that we are here to assist you in getting your voice heard. We also have a Legislative Guide available for download on our website to help you stay connected and informed.
Advocacy is one of the most valuable, yet sometimes least visible, benefits of your chamber membership. While it may not be as tangible as a networking event or workshop, this behind-the-scenes work ensures that your investment helps shape policies that strengthen our business climate. Whether it’s at city hall, the state capitol, or on Capitol Hill, Shawnee Forward is working every day to protect and advance the interests of our members.
