We're Grateful for Your Support in Fighting Dirty!

We want to express our deepest gratitude to the amazing volunteers who joined us last Saturday to make San Ysidro Park sparkle again! With the help of 20 dedicated individuals, we were able to clear out broken glass, bottle caps, small plastics, water balloons, and cigarette butts. Your efforts made a remarkable difference in the park's perimeter, playgrounds, and picnic areas.

Mark your calendars for our next clean-up event on August 26, 2023, as we shift our focus to Gilroy's Historic Downtown. Join us at www.gilroy.city/FightDirty and be a part of the positive change!

Once again, thank you for your invaluable support and dedication. Together, we can make our city cleaner and more vibrant for everyone to enjoy!

City Staff Tours High Speed Rail Project

The City of Gilroy Community Development staff attended a High-Speed Rail Construction tour on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, in Fresno. City staff toured the Historic Train Depot/Future Fresno Station, the high-speed rail mural and station area in Chinatown, the San Joaquin River Viaduct, and the Cedar Viaduct, which are all part of 119 miles that are currently under construction.

The Phase I system will connect San Francisco to the Los Angeles basin via the Central Valley in under three hours on trains capable of exceeding 200 miles per hour, with a station in Gilroy. Phase 2 will extend to Sacramento and San Diego. The high-speed rail will fundamentally transform how people move around the state, spur economic growth, create a cleaner environment, and preserve agricultural lands and natural habit.

While we acknowledge there are difficulties posed by introducing high-speed rail to our city, we remain committed to shaping the best possible outcome for Gilroy. We will continue collaborating with High-Speed Rail and VTA representatives to advocate for our community's interests every step of the way. Gilroy has a bright future ahead, and high-speed rail can play a role in that future if all stakeholders work together.
