Greetings!
In early January of this year, I led a team of ECM partners on a trip to Uganda to allow them to see the ministry "up close and personal." The team came up with the most unusual team motto of any trip I've ever been on: BE NEGATIVE (STAY POSITIVE). You see, with all those COVID tests, there was only one thing on our minds, and that was to be negative for every test! At the same time, we also worked hard to stay positive through all the ups and downs we encountered along the way.
While testing negative for COVID is always a good thing, having a negative attitude is definitely not. Namutebi Harriet had every reason to be negative, but unlike our team, being negative would have ruined her. Abandoned, without sufficient food for herself or her grandchildren, and suffering with health issues, she could have easily become overwhelmingly discouraged. But that is not how her story went. Take a moment to read below to see the important part you played in helping Harriet to stay positive through it all.
Understanding the Good News of Jesus makes all the difference, for Harriet, for our mission team, for our kids, and for you. When you understand it, you can't help but stay positive through every difficulty in life.

Itito Titus is 23 years old and has been in the ECM program since 2010. After secondary school, Titus was able to join ECM's Next Step Program.
Instead of attending university, he opted to start a business called Chick's Crafts where he repurposes old items to make beautiful crafts out of them.
Thanks to your support, Titus was able to start a successful business and provide for himself and his family!

Namutebi Harriet lives with her 2 children and 5 grandchildren because their father abandoned them early last year. She lacked sufficient funds to provide the children with regular meals or to send them to school.
On top of all that, for the last five years, Harriet has suffered with a hernia and could not afford the medication. She was feeling hopeless and discouraged.
But then ECM heard of her situation and discovered that she would be a needy recipient of help from our Family Empowerment Program. ECM provided the money for Harriet to get her much needed surgery done as well as provided food relief for her and the children.
Because ECM showed her the love of Jesus, Harriet now feels hopeful for a better tomorrow!

- Pray for the Coordinator of the Family Empowerment program in Uganda, Ruth, and the Assistant Coordinator, Spire. Pray that they would communicate options well to the families, that they would be encouraging, that they would have integrity in all things, that they would be good in administrative skills and follow up, as well as providing direction and guidance to the families.
- Rising costs are hitting Africa, just as they are here. As food, transport, supplies, and other costs increase, pray that leadership would have wisdom in how to deal with this issue.
- Continue to pray for U.S. staff as they continue to navigate a Donor Management System software migration. We're right in the heart of the migration now, and there are lots of discussions, research, trainings, and implementations taking place. Pray that we would focus on the Lord and His timing, and not stress over all that has to be completed.

Simon (20) has had to take grade 7 three times because of his lack of finances to finish. But during the times he was in school, he always performed well and got high grades. Thankfully, he was finally able to do his final exams for P7 and is now waiting for his results to get into secondary school. But he will not be able to go to secondary school without a sponsor.
Simon says he would like to work in government someday. He wants to become a leader in the community to represent the views of the vulnerable and silent people in his community to the outside world. Could you be the one to give Simon hope and empower him, so that he can then make a difference in his community?
